1. Because hippos are notoriously and violently territorial.
2. Because hippos are omnivores, and would be more ikely inclined to steal that calf as food.
3. Because most animals don't typically care about other animals of different species...much less Genus, Order, Family, etc...

1. Because hippos are notoriously and violently territorial.
2. Because hippos are omnivores, and would be more likely inclined to steal that calf as food.
3. Because most animals don't typically care about the survival of other animals of different species...much less Genus, Order, Family, etc...
4. Because most animals aren't altruistic, to where they would place themselves in danger for the well being of another, even of their own species..or even pack/pride/whatever
5. Because most animals don't understand the basics of CPR and First Aid. *credit to Alienwho*

Well your list is basically wrong.
1. Hippos can run faster than Carl Lewis and jump higher than Sergei Bubka
2. Hippos can be mean, but can also be very cool and make great pets for children
3. Hippos only care about their side - if you aren't with the hippos you are against them
4. Hippos feel no sense of fear or danger since they are responsible for more deaths and injuries per year than all other mammals and AIDS combined
5. Hippos can pretty much learn anything and that includes CPR and ninjitsu
