Is this glossy or matte??

I'm positive the D65U has matte screen. I had the 42" model of that line before, and I wasn't pleased with the picture quality.

My fiance's dad has a 64U and i think it looks pretty good... I'm not expecting awesome quality.

I mean I buy Vizio just because its cheap lol. Although, I really like the one i have now (the 47" non-120hz model) but the sound drops out for no apparent reason. Then I have to restart the TV to get it back.

So I figured might as well upgrade since I'll be gettin my money back and this one isn't much more...

I've not seen the 64U, but we owned a Vizio 37" 720p before and that's what we compared it to. The 42D65U looks nice in store, but when we took it home it just doesn't look good. Color looked flat, blueray movies looked dull, no matter what setting we tried. OTA tuner performance was weak, supported monitor resolution was limited. I had high hope for 1080p but felt very disappointed that it looked no better than the 720p Vizio. We finally returned the unit and paid the restocking penalty.

TVs aren't typically calibrated from the factory. My Vizio looks great after calibration.

True. I don't own any calibration tool myself, so I calibrated both the Vizio and Sharp from what I could find in AVS forum. Tons of settings for Vizio, but very few for Sharp 65U. I ended up getting a Samsung A650 which has a reflective screen, and the picture is amazing. There are tons of calibrations for A650 in AVS, but I feel no need yet cause the built-in settings look so good.
