Thank you very much for donating some completed workunits. Looks like you have a very powerful machine there. When you install SETI Driver as service, you need to either initialize SETI Driver or replace the user.sah that came with my install files.:)

I hope you frequently read posts here at this forum and will be able to correct the problem. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I wasn't able to check OK's proxy as often as I used to be. Looks like you just installed the service about 2 days ago. If you need assistance, please don't hesitate to PM me.:)

I have a high school classmate that uses singnet.com.sg. She is in Singapore. She is one of the people that knows the meaning of IsOs:) I don't think she or her husband would use my email address in SETI without letting me know.

So most likely, I'm looking for an AnandTech forum user based in Singapore.:)

Who is SETI user frosty? Is that you that graciously donated the completed workunits? If so, please correct the problem by either editing the user_info.sah or replace it with your own.

Thank you very much for your donations to Starship Troopers:)

I tried searching for info on Frosty but all I got is that there was one who joined March 13, 2000 but did no posting at all Anyone who knows how to contact frosty, please ask him if he just installed SETI Driver as service to check that installation.

Smokeball,

It happens when someone simply download the installation files without reading the readme.txt that came with it. The user is instructed to replace the user_info.sah otherwise the service will use the included user_info.sah which has my id. The original thread that discusses the procedure in creating the service in both Windows 98 & Windows 2000 repeatedly warn the user to replace the user_info.sah.

I pulled the link from that thread when I was accused of preying to unsuspecting user of the installation files despite the numerous warning posted on the thread about replacing the user_info.sah. I did placed a warning within the zip files but sometimes this happens. Since the installation files uses OrangeKid's proxy, I usually monitor and announced to the forum whenever I find occurences of mis-used of my SETI Driver as service.

I now removed the zip files from my web site.

Again, I appologized for any incovinience that the usage of my zip files might have created.

Happy Thanksgiving and goodluck to all!

Sorry you got hassled about your service install IsOs :(, we all know you were just trying to help the team.

What would happen if you created the zip file without the user_info.sah? Would it pop up and ask them to enter an email, or would it cause more problems?

In Windows 2000, the service will not start correctly. No crunching will occur since you don't see the DOS screen that prompt for the user ID. In the thread discussing the procedure, it was mentioned that you can run SETIDr.exe from the installed location to initialize the user information, shut down SETIDr.exe then start the service. I don't think the thread is still available.

IsOs, I really liked your service install, since you've removed it, could you e-mail me a copy? The copy I had got deleted, and I'm planning on assimilating a couple of machines this weekend. :)

Sorry about the confusion. :)

My Win2K box is just weird..... All fixed now. Running seti 'old-school' style using the startup folder ;)
The little icon in the tray doesn't bother me much now that it actually works.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Bah, put the files back up! :) It's not your fault if someone doesn't read the readme. ;) If you still feel guilty about it, I'm sure someone else will let you put their user_info.sah in the .zip file. hehe

I didn't received any PM with emai address/SETI ID so I simply put back the same files.;) The links are active again:)

Please make sure to replace the user_info.sah!, Sometimes, I could not review submission to OrangeKid's proxy. :)
