Is this for real?

Old news.

There are many things being worked on to make use of many heavy crude oils without having to wait for them to be refinable.
Much of the technology is many years from being usable though.

If you don't know that the entire US economy is based on OIL by now, you should go back to living under your rock, or trailerhome.

EVERY single neo-classical economy is doomed to failure. Because neo-classical economics are flawed at the core.

If you are interested, look into "post modern living"

People have been crying that the sky is falling oil-wise since the 1970s. It's nearly impossible to find credible news reports about the status of global oil reserves online today because Google News is now chock-full of "news" outlets like Guerrila News Network pulling up hits, but we've got at least another hundred years of easily reachable oil on the ground.

It is hard to find credible news about this stuff. The world won't end in 2010, for instance - as some would have you believe.

Still, one would be a fool to think that we can go on as we do now indefinitely, or even for a couple of hundred years. Unfortunately people would rather drive SUVs and whine about their right to choose, all the while filling saudi coffers and killing a finite resource at far greater rates than we need too. Such is humanity and it will kill itself. That's likely. The question is how long until it does?

I was merely surprised to learn that our oil production is on the decline. Or maybe I can live in Buffalo, BUWHAAAAA. Dump...

i am really surprised you are one of them.
I'm surprised you were so nice when attacking me. I'll take it as a compliment, coming from someone so high on the social ladder.

I don't live in Buffalo. But, American drilling reached its peak a few years back.

America reached it's peak oil production in something like 1970. It will probabably end up something between what that article suggests and what say you would here from the department of energy. I don't think humanity is going to end. It isn't going to be that great though for quite a while.

It's odd, you took the time to change your profile; I don't live in NY. I just put that location in my profile for the hell of it.

Let all the oil guzzeler use up the oil, then the government will be forced to pose some kind of rule eliminating low gas mileage vehicles. Which means no more SUVs, by then everybody will drive echos and insights.

Ho hum, Global Warming, polluting our way to extinction, bio-engineering of the food supply, inversion of the magnetic field, and now the depletion of fossil fuels...............the sky is falling.

There has never been a generation of man that didn't think that they were going to be the last.
