IS this ethical (ebay)

Big Seller has picture of a Thinkpad x201 laptop without trackpad. I went ahead and bought it with 8% cash back only to find out it does have trackpad through searching for model # listed at lenovos site.

Description on site was vague IMO. "Input Device - Keyboard, TrackPoint, UltraNav "

Turns out the ultranav thing is a trackpad. But pic in ad shows none.

Is it legit for me to ask to cancel? Ir should I have know better? I don't want a track pad (aka ultranav)

So... you fail at 10 seconds to google something you didn't know about... and ask if it's "ethical" ?

It's ebay.

edit:

every image i find on google for Thinkpad x201 shows the ultranav.. which is:
Ultranav.jpg

UltraNav is combination of both the traditional TrackPoint coupled with a programmable touchpad.

I thought is was blue button which is a bunch of utilites on my x200. And pic had none, and it's an upgrade from standard (cost more than track point alone). So I ordered.

Just email them and ask them to cancel the bid. Their picture is wrong if it does indeed have the pad. You should asked them before bidding though to make sure.

I think it's completely fair to expect the image to be the same as the item for sale unless clearly stated otherwise. I'd ask for it to be cancelled.

Yeah you gotta be careful on ebay....people are notoriously lazy about describing item properly and usually grab pictures off Google image search.

I'm learning that. I have only bought about 15 items there and this is second one with issue. Last time guy had a pic of sennheiser wrap around back of head athletic ear phones for running and sent me some cheap China ones out of hong Kong not even same color!

But this is mwave I expect accuracy.

weird

stock photo = caution.

always ask for picture of the box.

w/o is default - with is an upgrade like finger print reader or processor speed. ...at cheap price offered, cheaper than lenovo for it's base model I was not expecting a trackpad especially when photo shows without.

Another point of confusion is Lenovo actually calls it a trackpad on configuration site, not a ultranav.

Anyway I'll ask but not make a huge stink. Maybe they have one w/o anyway they can sell me.

As a matter of fact, you can fight to get a refund since the item is "significantly not as described." Ebay is slanted in the buyers favor nowadays. Take advantage of it if you need to. Sellers need to learn that it will hurt their business to take shortcuts when listing items.

What this guy said.

Personally I have been burnt too many times on Ebay. I just don't buy stuff there anymore.

I borrowed a bit from here and they even gave me a $10 store credit @ mwave.

Mwave rocks - just a little lazy on images like I was lazy on knowing every term.

All worked out. thx.

i don't get it...why don't you just disable it and be happy with the laptop you have, assuming it is fine otherwise?

Bothers my hands. I like flat surface to palm on like my x200. Never liked any track pads except my wifes macbook pro which is innocuous with buttons built into pad itself and flush....but then that dont have a trackpoint best point device ever...

Well if you google the model number 3249MDU as indicated in the auction that is what denotes that it doesn't have the trackpad, so the stock image is correct for the make/model etc, but thats not the make/model they shipped you... You can just disable it if you want, I dunno why this would be a big deal, you basically got extra features you didn't have to pay for.

No it's not correct 3249MDU denotes ultranav on board at lenovos site - ultranav is synonymous with a track pad - this was confirmed by vendor as well. Picture shows something else.

Not a big deal but I definitely prefer flat - It's not flat on palm rest anymore and with a ultra portable I need all the space I can get.
