should I add in a line saying how I'm glad to have met him or is that just tacky and trying too hard?

add: "I know you were really messed up and don't remember but if you don't help me with this I'll have to tell everyone about the fun night we had in your car.."

delete this part:
"is there any way I can forward you my resume? "

maybe :
"Would you be willing to please direct my attached resume to the appropriate person in XYZ department?"

Send resume now, with the e-mail.

Agreed. Add some fluff, make it sound nice. Core message is fine though. Also, I've found it to be more effective if you can make the request in person. I wouldn't make an appointment for it, but If you can meet him casually at another "party - ish" event, get him relativly alone, and just say: "Also, I was wondering if there are any oppurtunities for interships this *spring, summer, year, etc*" or something along those lines. He'll get the message.

That's how I got mine with Lockheed Martin, but then again I had worked with the guy for a month and he had seen my skills and abilites.
