Hi,

I ordered a Abit KG7, 256mb DDR 2100 corsair, and a 1.4 athlon.

Everything went wrong.

I installed everything correctly, and booted to windows with ONLY the CPU, RAM, and a Geforce 2 GTS.

When I rebooted, the system wouldnt post. I did many things for hours; took the CPU off the mobo several times, cleaned it (with a dry cloth) cleaned the heatsink and reapplied thermal paste, jumper switches, everything i could think of.
turns out, the video card had died, for reasons I dont know. I realized this when I looked at the vid card fan and it wasnt spinning.

I put a friends geforce 1 and tried to boot, but it wont boot. I took out the athlon and put in a duron 600 and it boots fine!

I am thinking my 1.4 is dead :( :( :(

But I still have faith.
The system will NOT boot with that CPU, BUT the heatsink still gets hot when the system is turned on, wich means the CPU is doing something and heats up. Does that mean its still working? or does a dead CPU heats up anyways?

Please let me know ASAP before I loose hope :/

Can you not try to put your chip in your friends machine? This would tell you for sure if your CPU is dead.
