Here's a thought: do it yourself.

Part out the system on paper, then look around the web pricing out each individual part as cheap as you can. A great place to start is http://www.pricewatch.com

If you can build a complete system that exactly matches or beats the system in the OP for the price of that system or cheaper, then buy the parts and build it yourself. Otherwise, it's a good deal.

Well, considering that the Athlon 64 3800+ X2 goes for about $330 for the processor alone, I'd say it's a kick ass deal. But I'm just thinking about the rest of the computer.

*slaps forehead*

Can you buy everything else in the computer for less than $170? No. What does that tell you?

That sounds like a pretty hot deal to me. The AMD dual core 3800 goes for 240 bucks by itself. $500 for that whole rig? Jump on it! Where are you getting it so I can get one too!

Dual core 3800+ for $240? WHERE? Pricewatch says $311 at least.

It doesn't matter. You still can't buy the rest of that system for $360.

Ehh now that I think about that, it was a post I read in hot deals. They were saying it was a pricing mistake but pcdirect.com had it listed for 239.99. I check their site now and they have it for 339.99 so looks like they were right. A bunch of people placed orders though. Cheapest I see for one now is $311 like you said. So yeah, if this computer is a dual core machine, definitely a hot deal here.

So is this a retail box? Or did somebody build and decide they wanted to get rid of it in a hurry without dealing with shipping it?

I'm going to run CPU-Z, WCPUID, and do a physical inspection on the computer just to make sure everything is in order. Last time I checked AMD Athlon 64 Socket 939s don't use DDR2.

It is a great deal but may not suit your needs for a HTPC as I'm not sure wether it has the graphical requirements for outputting HD content. Still, you could ebay the mobo for $40 and spend an extra $40 and drop a different one in there(and of course buy a VC).

Looks like a pretty good deal. Throw a decent video card in it and you've got a nice gaming rig there.
