Is this bad?

I built a new 64 system
3400 64 stock cooling
dfi mobo
gig of corsair value select
9800pro
wavemaster w/ 3 fans

I'm idling at about 50 C which is bad i know but when im playing cs source/hl2 the temps are about the same. Does this mean that quiet and cool isn't enabled?
Secondly, I have a zalman heatsink ordered but im not going to get it til xmas time(im at college and the rents have it) so is it bad for the processor to be running this hot that long?

thanks

You mean the idle temps and the load temps are pretty much the same? That's weird... I'd say 50C at load is acceptable, I get a bit nervous at the 60C mark. So what is your ambient temperature? If it's less than 40C, the interface between the processor and the heatsink may be bad. Or the fan is not spinning fast enough. In terms of cool n quiet, yes that should make a BIG difference. My CPU idles at 26C, and goes to max 45 under full load. Check your BIOS to see if there's a cool n quiet option. If not, I believe there's a "driver" on the AMD website that enables the feature. You can turn it on by going to "power management" in your control panel, and selecting "minimal power management". You can watch your processor underclock itself by reducing the multiplier and the core voltage if you download a utility called CPUID (or maybe it's CPUZ, either one.)
