This is the system:

850 Athlon Tbird
30 Gb Maxtor ATA100
256 pc133 RAM
MSI K7T Turbo KT133A motherboard
Matrox G450 video

I have never done any overclocking and have about 4 extra fans in the case.

This is the problem:
Frequent blackouts (meaning the monitor goes black and the computer stops taking any input. The energy saver functions seem to kick in. All the fans in the case of course still run.)

This happens at all kinds of different times. Sometimes I am working away, other times it happens during the Operating system load, and it will also happen when the initial boot up happens before the operating system starts to load.

Any help will greatly be appreciated. By the way, I have tried both Win 98 and 2K pro. Same problems. The computer worked fine for about a year before this started happening and I am at a loss on where to begin.

I dont believe your problem to be one that is heat related. Heat related problems are generally very systematic. Like if you were to just run your system for a while, then when you did something that was cpu intense, then the computer would bomb out. You said that sometimes it will happen during your operating system bootup. Is this after a cold boot (not had your computer on for several hours), or is it right after the computer crashed once. If the latter, you may be looking at your processor getting too hot. If you believe this to be the case, when your computer crashes after a long time of doing work, reboot it and check your temperature readings in bios. If your up there around 60 degrees celsius, you could have a heat problem.
