If he/she can't handle reality they have no business being the boss.

If you know your boss and know he can handle it it's ok, I've known some vindictive SOBs that wouldn't.

So have I. So I told them anyway and let them have a breakdown over it, then I found another job. That sort of thing is something I just can't put up with. But then, I have a low tolerance.

to a friend's statement-yes
to a employer's statement-no
Since the language is very informal I would say it is appropriate. People that can't handle criticism really need to toughen up.
