You simply cannot associate black people with fried chicken because it would be considered racist. Ask Mary J. Blige about that. This video got pulled because it was also deemed "racist":

The irony being that only non-blacks can be seen enjoying chicken in commercials and media.

No it would be considered stereotyping. Racism is hatred towards a race. Blacks liking fried chicken is not hating them. WTF?

Is everything racist, sexist, or offensive in some way?

Not if you judge things by the intent behind them. This was pretty clearly not intended to be racist, so it isn't. Aspects of it that can be picked out that might conceivably offend someone don't make it racist purely because they weren't intended to offend.

I really don't understand cases like this. If everyone knows that it's not intended to be a racist ad, then what are the offended people really crusading against by protesting it?

Maybe it is racist because of the chop sticks and all the Asians eating rice! Asians eat more than rice and noodles.

KFC is huge in the parts of Asia I have visited. Seems to be very popular over there for whatever reason.

They do eat a lot of Chicken in Asia. This is what my Korean wife says: They like to season it so it does not taste like chicken. They eat a lot of hot spicy pork and seafood also.

Even in India I was immensely popular when it first started back in early 90s. Two reasons -
1. Its American, gives it a certain stature, it automatically becomes a symbol of high society and status. People over there had no idea about the typical clientele of these businesses in US.
2. Braided fried chicken was not known in those part of the world, any kinf of meat was always cooked in a different way. Compared to traditional chicken these are very very tasty to most

I wonder if they did a survey of fried chicken places, how much chicken would actually get purchased by black people? Maybe it is because a lot of black people purchased fried chicken.

It is definitely racist against Asians.

Funny you mention that, I do have at true story. 3 co workers and I go to a KFC buffet (yes they exist). We are behind a family of what appears to be African American's. They take the last pieces of chicken from the buffet, so we sit down and wait. When the new tray arrives, they get up, we get up and are yet again behind them. They take every single piece of chicken off of the tray...nothing else mind you, one guy looks back at us knowing we are waiting on it and proceeds to take them all.

So we sit down again and the cashier sees this and takes the next tray directly to our table so we can get some, we had already been there for 30 minutes without any chicken.
Similar happened to me at a Ponderosa buffet and another time at a grocery store where a black guy took all 5 fried chicken platters from the deli as I stood in line. Take it however you want but I would guess that perhaps stories like this might be why some equate black people to loving fried chicken. I like it too but damn at least I'm considerate about it and actually eat something with it without being all greedy

You mean someone went to a KFC who likes fried chicken. GETOUTTAHERE!

No, you'd be pretty racist for associating fried chicken with black people instead of people who are at a fried chicken restaurant.

Probably because its delicious.

I have a friend who goes to Jamaica often and she says that when they introduced KFC, the kids didn't even want jerk chicken anymore because fried chicken was so much better.

It was a nice commercial. And this is KFC South Africa, and the black family isnt American, but the sentiment of being a foreigner and wanting something familiar is fairly universal. Since South Africa is mostly black, it makes sense they would use a black family. You could replace KFC with any chain in South Africa and the commercial would still work..minus the finger licking part.

What would be racist if is the girls went into the KFC and the black girl was denied service.

That's Thailand.

Sadly racism exist in not just Thailand but all over Asia.

I know of Indian and African teachers who were denied a teaching position because of their color.

I had read that in South Korea a small child walked up to an African woman and quickly licked her arm. She said "you don't taste like chocolate."

If you were to take a look at a typical cosmetic department in Asia, you would notice facial creams that will bleach your skin white.

Here is a Dunkin Donuts commercial that was made in Thailand. It's gotten a lot of attention because supposedly it's racist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EOEk-RBLas

:)

OH HELL NO, LOL

Just to play devil's advocate.

I was wondering if the tables were reversed if it would be construed as racist. Let's say you have a mostly black school and the outside kid was an Asian. Then the black kid goes up to the Asian kid and makes a hand sign that looks like he is eating with chopsticks. Then they take the Asian to a Panda Express.

I would think that may be a little racist, so I can see why people might be offended by this commercial.

Who ever made that and who ever agreed to this at KFC should be fired and never work again.

I can imagine the dialog from the Thai girl now.... "Hey, that black chick looks like someone who wants to eat fried chicken with us... let's bring her along!" :)
