What processor is it? If it's one of the old socket A AXPs, it should be fine in most cases. My old Athlon TB 1400 looks far worse than that and has worked without any problems for years.

If it works and doesn't get abused any further, then it's fine. The guy can run Prime or something on it to make sure. Usually though, if a chip on the core is serious enough, then the CPU is already dead.

BTW, did you know about the chips when you sold it? If so, did you tell the buyer before selling it? If you did not, then the proper thing to do IMO is to offer a discount (and buyer keeps it) or a refund (and buyer sends it back). The condition of goods should be disclosed prior to sale. If you disclosed condition to buyer before sale and the CPU works fine, then you don't owe him anything and he should be happy with the CPU.

yeah i never noticed the cracks

and the cpu ran fine for a while for me

anyway, i did offer to refund him either some $$$ or the do a total return

Awhile back I sold a multiplier-unlocked AXP 2800+ that had a slightly crushed corner but worked fine @ 2.4ghz, however I made that fact clear in the FS thread which is really what you should have done.

At this point since you've offered a discount/refund, you have done the best you can to clean things up... just remember for next time.
