It's been one of the worst tick years I can recall. I've picked over 7 of of me. .. just crawlers, not bedded yet. Two off of my son and 1 that did embed in my daughters scalp. And that's just being in the grass not even in the woods. Thankfully all wood ticks and no deer ones.

That was totally feeding. The skin(?) looks stretched and floppy.

Did blood come out when you pulled it?

It came off in parts, like the main body, and then I had to pull a couple legs out, I think it definitely bit me.

Dog ticks don't carry lyme, correct?

The tick that my son got lymes disease from hadn't been on his body for more than 4 hours. It doesn't need to be feeding for greater than 36 hours according to many studies. If you get the ring, assume you have lymes disease and we found it after 7 days, not weeks.

Thanks for the info.

I think if you did some research you will notice ticks can carry hundreds of different kinds of diseases. Lymes disease is just the most commonly recognized disease.

That's not how ticks work, at least not the ones I've pulled off my dogs. A tick that's been feeding looks more like a kernel of corn - the body cavity expands and is kind of solid/firm.

I HATE tickets. I'm fine with spiders, bats, millipedes, creepy-crawlies of all kinds, but I HATE ticks. Unfortunately we have tons around here. I haven't found one in me for years but found one crawling across my arm last week. Shiver.

Apparently, ticks don't like the taste of me or something. I've had dozens of them on me while out hunting - I now avoid two particular areas that seemed to be heavily infested the last two times I hunted there. But, I've never had a tick start feeding on me. The first time I encountered a lot of them, I went running up to our house from the car, screaming "get them off me! Get them off me!" like a little girl, while stripping all my clothes off. I didn't care if neighbors saw me. Now, when I get home, I just strip down, do a quick self-check, then have my wife double check areas such as my scalp.

The image I got was an engorged tick that had the blood squeezed out of it. A tick reminds me of a hydrated raisin. Plump and squishy. Nasty little things.

For people that have the property, and tick problems, guinea hens are supposed to great tick eaters. Free food, and fewer ticks; win-win.

My son had a tick on his back we removed last week. It was there maybe 3-4 hours tops. Sunday, we went back in the woods and, when we got back, we made him take his shirt off to check for ticks. Where the other tick had been, there was now a large red ring that looked like a bulls eye. Yep, Lymes disease. He is now on antibiotics and the dr said we caught it early so he should be fine, but man, ticks are no joke. The 20 minutes we spent in the woods looking for morels this weekend netted 4 ticks on me, 3 on my youngest son, and 7 on my oldest son who has the lymes disease.

Glad you caught it early. Hope the AB's kick it quick.

Except they're stupid and mean birds. They stand out in the road and won't let cars go by. They're just loud and obnoxious.

I'd rather take my chances with ticks.

If you pulled it out, did the head break? Might want to ensure the sucker part is not still in the skin.

They can actually take a few hours to select a spot and drill in. The days when I've had to get embedded ticks off me have usually been long ones where I've been in the woods for 6-8 hours and then a two hour drive home.

Whoa, hope everythings alright. Glad they caught it. Did they test for lyme disease? I think the early bullseye is also a symptom of a bite from the lone star tick, except it doesnt transmit lyme disease.

I don't know if they tested him or not, my wife took him to the doctors and her text to me just said the dr said it was lymes and he now has a prescription for antibiotics. That was yesterday.

Also, we don't have lone star ticks in Kansas. We have plenty of Jayhawk ticks and Toto ticks, but no lone star ticks. Those live further south.
