Is this a step up? Decent?

Looking for a little performance boost (for not much money) and am thinking about upgrading my CPU/mobo. What I'm looking it is old-tech too, and I'm not familiar with it. LMK what you think.

Current Setup:
Abit NF7-S (NF2) mobo
AthlonXP 2.2GHz
1GB RAM dual channel
9800 Pro

Proposed Setup:
ECS NF3-A mobo (Socket 754)
Athlon64 3000 2.0GHz (Socket 754)
1GB RAM (I don't think the NF3 is dual channel capable)
9800 Pro

Would this net me a decent step up? I'd be losing 200MHz CPU speed...but would I gain that back with the A64 Hypertransport performance?

Thanks for the help.

The performance gain will be marginal at best. Since you need to keep the AGP slot an ASRock 939Dual & 3800+ would be my recommendation.

Thanks, John. That would be a $350 upgrade though; way more than I want to spend.

Heh, I've got a 4200X2(1MB), 2GB Ram, 7800GTX rig sitting in storage right now. Long story. I'm stuck with this rig for the near-term.

then no. don't upgrade. Your current CPU is enough topower anygame out, and right now there's nothing you can do IMHO
