I have a computer up for sale on craigslist for $500. I got a response asking what the minimum I would take for it. I told them I am firm on the $500 and they responded they are highly interested in the computer and are willing to pay me $650 plus shipping if I ship it. They will pay me through PayPal, but they mentioned they have issues with their eBay account.

It doesn't make sense to me that you would ask me the minimum below my original offer then offer me more than what I am asking... And why mention eBay is response to a craigslist ad, including problems revolving around the account?

I live in Central California and they contacted me from a New York area code. Has anyone ever ran across something like this with craigslist ads?

I'm not going to read the OP: I'm just going to respond first.

If you had to question, it's a scam.

edit: omg, seriously?? SERIOUSLY? It's a scam.

Do yourself a favor and cancel your paypal account, your bank account and your credit cards, then give power-of-attorney to someone with an ounce of sense to act on your behalf.

That's not an insult, that's honest advice. It's the only way you're not going to wind up broke.

Lots of scammers target craigslist ads.

Selling any kind of electronics on craigslist needs to be face-to-face, cash-only deals in a public place. And know how to detect counterfeit currency.

Scam.

Funny side note. We got a Nigerian scam mail in the MAIL. Yes they paid for postage and even signed it.

Tell him deal then just wait for the money to clear paypal and actually be in your account before you ship?

This applies here, too:

I've accepted a lot of offers for things before, I simply don't ship until I have received full payment.... it's impossible to be scammed if you treat your transaction like major retailers. I don't think Amazon would ever ship me a TV if I called them up and said - I accept your offer, please send immediately and I will paypal you an extra $150.

I think you should go for it. Once you've got the extra money you should come back to this thread and rub it in everyone's face. It would definitely be worth watching
