Is this a scam?

I have an old motorcycle for sale in our local newspaper, and some guy called and left a message saying he was with some internet marketing company, and that for $89 they could sell my motorcycle online for what I'm asking for it, or I'll get my money back. Is this true, or is it a scam. The company is "Longwood Industries" and they're a "501c3" company, whetever that means.

Pay them the $89 but then tlel them to sell it for $500 more than what you were asking. See if thye can do it. But they might say they have a year to sell it and that if you sell it yourself you owe them anyway or things like that.

It's probably legit but they're just gonna list it on Ebay for you. No more. This seems to be a new thing. I saw a local TV advertisement for one these companies recently. "Let us sell your items on Ebay for you!" I don't get it...

edit: a 501(c)(3) is a tax-exempt non-profit charitable organization.
Longwood Industries provides assistance to the mentally and physically disadvantaged residents of Bedford, VA.
edit2: It appears they run their own online vehicle selling service at www.thebiglot.com at a cost of $89. This appears to be legit, not a scam.

What is your time worth?

If it is easier to just let them do all the work, and your not having to take calls, show the bike, or any other messing around, it might be worth it. But if they are just gonna list it and you still have to use just as much time... then no.. it is not worth it.

🙂

yep, thats what i learned in tax class. a 501(c)(3) company is a company that you can donate to and receive tax exemptions when you file your taxes.

there are several companies (franchises) that do this now. Many have storefronts. I guess some people don't want to go through the hassle of taking pics, listing, dealing with the customers or shipping. So these companies do this work and charge a fee.
