The score you would still have to pay for. Seems like a scam.

about to post this. There is no such thing as a free credit score other than through annualcreditreport.com. All other sites, including freecreditreport.com (ya know the one with the whimsy commercials) only provide the report, which does not include the score. So, either it's a scam or that lady is a moron.

How does companies like creditreportgrade.com work? sorry I'm pretty clueless about things like this.

creditreportgrade.com forwards you to tracking202, which is basically a way for that person to monitor where his clicks are coming from and properly direct them to the offer page. In the case of this domain, they are forwarding it to annualcreditreport.com, which is 100% legit. Likely this is because they are trying to get an ad approved on facebook or google. Once the ad is approved, they will swap out the destination domain for their offer.

Thus, when you click on it, you'll be directed to a website where you'll have to pay for something. When you fill that form out, the person directing you there makes money. The company you sign up with makes money when your "free" trial expires and they start billing you for services.

FYI - if you call these companies after you've been charged, simply threaten to do a chargeback through your credit card provider. Chargebacks are poison to these guys and they will do almost anything to avoid them, including refunding you 100% of your money.

I'd be wary of a scam.

There have been several ads here lately with links to credit report sites where the landlord wants you to fill it out. I'm sorry but there's no way I'm putting in my name, address, work info, SSN, DOB, and then paying money using one of my credit cards to buy something cause some dude on craigslist tells me to.

Yes they do give you a score if you pay for one. You have the option after getting your free credit report to purchase it. It's 6.95 per score from each of the three agencies.

How can I get my credit score?
You can purchase a credit score by contacting one of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies.

Equifax - www.equifax.com
Experian - www.experian.com
TransUnion - www.transunion.com

You can also purchase a credit score when you request your free annual credit report through this website.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The problem is, it's not a FICO score. It's their own model which might be close to a FICO and it might not. IIRC, one of the scores from the three agencies has a high end of 950.

A real FICO is 500-850

If you really want your FICO you need to go to www.myfico.com and pay for it.

Complete scam for referrals. This is the second time I inquired about an "almost too good to be true" rental (Miami Craigslist) and I received the same boilerplate email in response:

Hello [my name],

Thank you inquiring about my condo for rent. I am scheduling viewings of the unit and would be interested in showing you around the building.

Due to poor renting experiences in the past I am requesting that you confirm you have an reasonable credit score and would like to hear more about your current employment to avoid dealing with under qualified tenants.

I would suggest getting a free report from http://www.creditreportgrade.com which requires less than 3 minutes and has no cost. No viewings will be allowed until I have received your score. This will be helpful for other properties you are looking at and is a standard in pre-rent screening procedures.

I am asking that you complete the report and provide me with the numerical score, please DO NOT send the report as it contains sensitive information, you can print it for your records and bring it with you to the viewing.

If you can also tell me a little bit about yourself, your interests, hobbies.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,

[random name]

Wish I could bring a lawsuit for deceptive business practice or something.
