Is this a 'safe buy' for a textbook?

I need to get this for a class. It's expensive, as you can see ($131).

I found a copy elsewhere with the description:

BRAND NEW Overstock hardcover from UK Lib & Never Used. 3rd Ed. Cover is Library style hardcover, inside same as bookstore ones (high quality).

It costs $51. Big savings! BUT my question is this...what exactly is an "overstock" copy? Is there something wrong/different about it...?

Or is this one of those awesome deals where libraries sell stuff way under cost...?

Thanks,
-Eric

P.S. This is a useful book for me to have as it will be used in 1 or 2 more classes after the current one...so I don't want to get something crappy.

Edit: this is half.com

Buy at Half.com. I trust them completely for my textbooks.

Thanks for posting this thread BTW, cuz I need to buy mine too.

I have used half.com to buy and sell books. Highly recommended

Library style covers are stronger and have more durable bindings then normal covers.

Will you get your money back if the book isn't as described?

I don't know if there's a money-back guarantee. That's good to know about it being more durable though.

This is through half.com...

And yeah I'm gonna get some use out of it, but there's no reason to spend $130 on something that can be had for $50. I don't believe in buying $130 textbooks anyway...that's a ton of money for a little book.

Ok so Half.com sells BRAND NEW books that are sitll wrapped for far less than:

A) Your campus' bookstore's new books
B) Used books at campus bookstore/off campus bookstore.

Thus. Get Half.com

I remember I bought my calc book was $120 at the campus bookstore. $100 used. $77 brand new on Half.com and with a $5 coupon making it $72. Rofl. That was many years ago. In any case I just saved at least $100 buying 3 books off of Half.com today. All brand new AND hardcover. Could've saved more by going paperback but I know I dont take care of my books real well so yea...

lol like i said, this is half.com...new book for $50 vs regular price of $131

only thing I wasn't sure about is this "overstock" library edition...it seems like it's the regular US content w/better bindings. I've seen other postings like this where libraries sell their stuff for way under cost b/c they got too much.

I wish I could buy books now, but I won't even know what I need until I get to class and my professors tell me. By that time I won't really have enough time to use a website will I?

I bought a math book from the campus bookstore and used it for 3 days until my stuff from Half.com arrived. =P Then returned it of course.

Sounds reasonable, is this what people do? How much do you most of you spend per semester? I was budgeting around $450 myself, less would be great, of course.
