Is this a reasonable cpu o'c?

It's hard 2 find ne info on whether this is usual/unusual cos my components are all a few years behind the game, but here goes....

t-bred xp2000+ (completely unlocked- i can fiddle with multipliers down2 5 and up2 18 or so) on an ASUS A7V8X (which i am convinced is holding me back- no agp/pci lock 🙁 ) currently running @12*177=2124mHz @1.725v. Stock hsf, and temps are a mystery 2 me since i get a wild range depending on whether i use the asus mobo utility (very reasonable temps) or speedfan/hwinfo (sometimes quite hot temps!)

What would this be comparable 2 (i know the clock speed puts it on par w/2600+ or 2800+)?

I notice with 3dmark benches and d3 benches that i get much more out of pushing the fsb and dropping the multiplier than the otherway round, i assume because i'm getting more mem bandwidth...

Neway just hoping u folks can give me a bit of a critique on my o'c, and looking back maybe remember what u were getting with these sort of chips a couple years ago?

Cheers 🙂

looks pretty good to me. if you want a mb with agp/pci lock, get an Abit board. it's a decent oc, though.

mine's being held back as well, except it's the ram that's holding it back. i tried a different type of ram with 2-2-2-5 latency and was able to overclock my 2.4 to 3.4ghz!

i've got a 9800 pro...but only the 128mb, heard something bout a XT flash i can do but i thought u could only do that 4 the 256 like urs?

EDIT: I can hit 182fsb no worries- probs start happening after that 🙁

Heh: get higher 3dmark/higher mem bandwidth @177 (2-3-3-6) than @182 (2.5-3-3-7)

You probably don't want to do the XT flash-it's possible, but dangerous. Search the Video forums-there's a thread in there for it.

Your OC may well be CPU limited. That's pretty decent for a TBred. Especially if it's "A". B's maybe could get a little higher, but mine was about 2250 max with 1.8 vcore and Thermalright AX-7 with Tornado fan. Temps never got over 45C, so I know that the chip just wouldn't do any more on air. If you really want to know, keep it at stock FSB and go for 2300 MHZ-if that works, you know that it's AGP or memory. If not, obviously your CPU does about 2.2-not too bad really.

if your chip totally unlocked.. why would your board be holding you back because of no pci agp lock =l

Azzy64.

With no lock, when you up the FSB... you are running your PCI and AGP cards out of spec. They won't hold up for too high of an overclock thus this being the bottleneck.

Wicked2010.

With an unlocked CPU, there is no need to up the FSB... you are not running your PCI and AGP cards out of spec.

There is a need to up the FSB if you want to increase your memory speed.

If you want the best of all worlds... you'll need a PCI/AGP lock.
