Is this a problem?

My system works fine for a while then after it runs for about an hour it crashes. After one crash I checkded the CPU temp on my Amd 1 GHZ in bios and it read 140 degrees F. Is this too hot?

140F is 60C... that's pretty hot for no load on the cpu (if it's just in bios)

what kinda heatsink are you using? are you overclocking at all?

do you have any case fans?

This is my parents' computer, so I'm assuming it has the stock AMD heatsink that they usually come with. The processor is not overclocked...

However, I just checked and there is only one fan installed with the case! Would another fan be adequate to fix this heat problem?

better than another case fan would be a better heatsink

the stock amd ones suck

check out one from taisol or something... they work well and are pretty quiet. the sk6 is better, but also louder.

edit: i'm suprised that it has trouble running stock though! where did you buy the computer from? it should be able to run stock w/o overheating

search around the forums for heatsink advice (i'm a little unfamiliar w/ aircooling right now)

if you're replacing the heat sink, you'll need some thermal goop to put on the processor when you take off the old one

get arctic silver 2...

get a svc golden gate and any fan you like.

this heatsink is keeping my cpu temp at around 35 (and yeah i do have a delta black label..... I'm thinking about changning it though since it's too loud.... personally i think it's ok, but my gf says that i cannot leave my computer on overnight with this fan......)

i am thinking that the thermaltake 60mm would be a good fan since it's quiet and has good airflow.... but i don't know if it's that good..
