Which type of inspector are you talking about?

If it's one of those "home inspectors" then you're probably right. Who knows WTF those guys do anyway except shine a flashlight on a few things and write up a report that states they are not responsible for anything they find or didn't find. And send you the bill of course.

If it's a state electrical/building inspector, they won't do it themselves but, they can certainly require that things be disassembled to get a look at what was done.

If it's a joint inspector, then fuck no, never dismantle a joint to inspect it. They only way to confirm is to spark it up and see what you got.

This would be the stupidest thing possible. Also when it expands good luck getting the fixture on esp if the screw holes are filled in.

If the light is not under a weather cover simple caulking is the proper solution if the fixture is not gasketted to begin with.
