Is this a hoax? Sounds like one, but I'm not sure

So here's the email I got in response to an add on Craigslist for my speakers:

"Hello ,
greetings to you,My name is edman,i sawyour(Paradigm Studio 100 v3 speakers in black - $1750 } placed on advert, and it suits what i have been looking for since a very long time, based on the description i have decided to buy it from you,I don't want to involve myself in a stolen property,so i will like you to give me all neccessary details about it and the last asking price and i will like to see pics for proper verification of what i am buying.I will also like you to know that i am presently not in the country ,i reside in england for a business trip,So i will like to ask you if you accept to be payed with a via us certifier cashier'scheck or money order? If that is acceptedbyyou, kindly mail me back with
details.NAME....ADDRESS......PHONE NUMBER#.....Thanks Best regards
Edman Pitt"

What do you guys think? It all sounds like a load of doo-doo, but just want to be sure.

Sounds like a scam based on the grammar and the name "Edman Pitt." Seems like someone is trying too hard to be British. :)

if he sends the money first via M.O.... you have all the money right there. it cant bounce, etc. it basically means you have the money...

i was thinking the same thing. usually scams involve western union or something like that. i assume he wants you to ship the speakers to England?

1. money order only + shipping
2. wait a week for it to clear
3. call bank to confirm
4 ...
5. profit?

never sell outside of US.
I just sold a pair of headphones to France, after a week the guy said he still hasn't received.
I was like "fvck!", but luckily he told me he got them today.
The grief from selling internationally simply doesn't worth the little extra profit.

in his defense, "normal" scams usually involve a higher offer and western union. or maybe i'm not up to date with the latest scams :p

Nope. The classic nigeria scam is the dude sends you a $10k cashier's check, you deposit it, it goes through, western union him $5k back, then the cashier's check comes back and you don't get the $10k.

With this, he'd get a cashier's check, deposit it, see the money, send the product, then the cashier's check would come back invalid, and he'd be out his speakers.

weird. i thought the bank would be able to validate/invalidate a money order on the spot.

Yeah. You'd think so wouldn't you? It baffled me too when I first read about it because I've taken out a money order/cashier's check before, and they took the money right out of my account and gave me the slip of paper. I don't know how I would have gotten it without having the money. I really don't understand how it works, but apparently that's what happens.

Rule #1 - If you have to ask "Is this a scam?" then the answer is "yes."

hehe...I had no idea I'd get so many responses. I wish you could somehow check how long someone's had a yahoo/gmail/etc account.
