Is this a good Xbox 360 purchase plan?

Alright, Here's what i plan to get to start out my Xbox 360 experience:

Xbox 360 pro bundle(Will get it from Best Buy so that if RROD strikes I can just exchange it for another one if they still do that, hopefully the new jaspers will prevent that)

Games I'll get:
Ace Combat 6
Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts
Battlefield: Bad Company
Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway
COD 4
COD WAW
Dead Rising
Gears of War
Gears of War 2
Halo 3
Halo Wars
Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection

I'll probably rent some other games like History Channel: Battle for the Pacific(I know it sucks, but i hear its easy so I'll just rent it for an easy 1000 more gamerscore), Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, COD 3, and a few other easy titles in order to raise my gamerscore.

Accessories:
Microsoft Wireless Adapter
Microsoft HDMI Cables
12+1 Month Xbox Live card
12 month Xbox Live/PGR4 Gold pack
Play and Charge Kit
Battery Recharge Station
3 Rechargable Battery Packs
An extra wireless controller
3 4000-Microsoft point cards

And this display to play my Xbox 360 on:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824014181

Is this a good purchase plan?

Make sure to have @ least 1 black controller, but that's just me, I don't like white/light-colored electronics.

I would skip most of the Accessories you listed.

Microsoft Wireless Adapter
You can buy a wireless router for less then $30 that can accomplish the same thing. There are 100s of guides on how to do so.

Microsoft HDMI Cables

I would just grab a HDMI cable from monoprice.

Play and Charge Kit
Battery Recharge Station
3 Rechargable Battery Packs

You can just use rechargeable AA batteries and save a lot of money.

12+1 Month Xbox Live card
12 month Xbox Live/PGR4 Gold pack

Also, why are you buying 2yrs of live? Just get the PGR pack, and wait for a deal to renew. Someone will have 12+1 cards on sale for $29.99 (or less) during the next 12 months.

If it were me, anyways.

You really don't need to drop the $150 on MS points all at once unless you're planning on using them right fast.... You can always just purchase them digitally anyways.

BTW your plan is fine if you can afford it.

I've never seen somebody with a "plan" to buy a console... let alone need one... let alone understand the need for a plan.

Games to get:
Gears of War
Gears of War 2
Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection

Accessories:
Microsoft Wireless Adapter (I'm assuming the WiFi adapter...buy it on eBay or something for way cheaper)
An extra wireless controller

I got my HDMI cables for like...$10 on eBay? Something like that.

Just buy rechargeable batters that you can use in anything. Buying the batteries plus a charger is way cheaper than buying the crappy Microsoft stuff that is only good for your controller.

Buy the 12+1 Live if you must, but I'd wait until it goes on sale. It's $38.99 on Amazon, but I got it for $29.99 at Best Buy a few weeks ago.

Buy points as you go online. They aren't taxed.

Sounds like you have a lot of money to burn, and if you're buying all of this retail, then the quote about a fool and his money is true... 😉

A lot of this stuff you want is really worthless fluff...I mean, the Microsoft recharge kits? Microsoft brand HDMI cables? My battery recharger recharges four batteries in 15 minutes. HDMI cables are just cables...there is no difference in the brands other than how much you're getting ripped off.

My real recommendation? Just get a PS3. 🙂 A 360 LOOKS cheap, but when you factor in all the stuff you have to buy to make it actually functional, it isn't such a good deal any more. At least with the PS3, you can play Blu-rays too!

In your OP you already said that you're planning around RROD just in case. How sad is it that you're willing to give a company hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars who clearly makes inferior products that you know will fail?

Just for the record: I own both a 360 and a PS3. I see the merits of both, but unless you really like the 360 exclusives or Live or something, the PS3 is actually a better value...

I agree with this advice.

I might be alone here, but I think the play and charge kits are worth it. If I have rechargeable AA batteries laying around, I'm just going use them in other things. I don't think you really NEED the extra batteries, I get by with one and the cable.
When my one battery dies I just play with the cable plugged in until I'm charged.

EDIT:

I feel the need to point out a few things:
1) You're going to have 2 Controllers
2) The Play and Charge Kit comes with a Battery Pack.
3) The Battery Charge Station thingy comes with a battery.
4) That means you'll have 5 battery packs for 2 controllers??

I already have a PS3, but I want Live so i can play with my HS buddies that are going to college with me. They want me to get a 360 and Live so we can play Halo 3 and other such games.

Edit: Since I'm going to be getting an Asus Eee PC, I'll throw out the wireless adapter and just hook up my wireless router to the PC and then hook up the 360 to the Eee PC.

Another question, are the new jasper 360s less prone to failing? Not just RROD, but other types of failures.
