Is this a good way to video tape with high quality audio?

I need to record a video taped application for a piano competition. I have a Sony DCR-TRV 525 camcorder.

Would it be possible to simply run video from the camera to a vcr and at the same time audio from a mixer (with good microphones) to the vcr?

Doesn't the camcorder have auxiliary audio inputs to override the microphone input? I'm not sure the VCR is needed for this scenario.

This is what i've been told:

The mic jack is not ideal because we are trying to go through a recorder (for reverb) and in to the camera...typically these mic jacks are not stereo but this one might well be, the manual doesnt say. I would rather use a left/right audio input which I THINK that this camera has, but again the manual is not to clear on how to get external audio into the camera.
