I have an aging HD5850. It's hot and a power hog.

Was looking at 7850 2GB or 7870 2GB, saw a really good deal on 7870 Tahiti LE but it's a power hog and run's hot.

Saw this 2GB 650ti boost overclocked, what do you guys think, a decent upgrade, cooler, uses less power? How does it compare to 7850/7870?

Think I should wait till Holiday deals for a better deal?

Oh I have a Antec 620w bronze and a i5-4670K. I'm still using a 22" 1680x1050 monitor but I'll upgrade that when it dies.

If you overclock at all both the 7850 and 7870 will be faster than an a 650ti boost when all 3 are clocked to average overclocks. Stock the 650ti falls between the 2 radeon cards. For an extra 50$ a ~200$ 7950 will give you a boost you will notice over your 5850.

OP if you are on a tight budget get a msi hd 7850 twin frozr. good cooler and unlocked voltage. can easily overclock to 1100 - 1150 mhz and match a HD 7870. faster than GTX 650 Ti boost due to more OC headroom and better scaling.

if you can spend a bit more i strongly recommend you get a PCS+ HD 7950 OC for USD 235. 3GB VRAM. keeps you well prepared for the next gen of games.

fantastic cooler. unlocked voltage. easily overclocks to 1100 mhz and matches HD 7970 Ghz / GTX 770 performance  if you want to cut costs sell the game coupons and you will end up at around USD 200 which is an outstanding deal for this card.

Why is everyone still talking with the Radeon HD 7000 series names after the R9 series launch?

AMD R9 270X = Radeon HD 7870 for $199

AMD R9 280X = Radeon HD 7970 for $299

both significantly cheaper than the previous 7000 series equivalent.

that might be true but 7870 oc at 150 is still a really good deal and not too far off 270X as far as performance goes

5% is not worth 50-60 bucks plus you still get 2 games with 78XX and 3 Games with 79XX

If you run more than one monitor go with the 650ti, even with overdrive disabled my 7850 flickers my secondary monitor (or TV).

I was a very strict budget and landed it for $109. Once I figure out how to get my Dell 660 to recognize the card, I'll let you know how it is.
