is this a good switch?

For only two computers, a crossover cable is all you need. A crossover cable is used to connect two computer directly to each other without the use of a hub. I recently bought one at a computer show here is the SF bay area (14 ft for $3 the 25 ft was $5). This will save you some significant cash.

In the case you add a 3rd computer, you might want to consider getting a router and you won't have to do the 2 NIC's in one computer thing.

If he got the Cisco 675 when he setup his DSL, he doesn't need a router. All he'd need is whatever switch he buys now.

thx fellas

i'm going to go w/the crossover cable idea for now because i am poor and i want to save money.

so basically it's just a cable that connects the 2 computers? what software do i run?

thx for the input and help guys.

you can use windows internet connection sharing. winME seems to do it very well and very easily.

crossover cables are besically used to connect 2 computers. make sure when you do buy one, the associate knows what you are talking about. You can tell it's a crossover because one end does not has a wire pattern exactly the same as the other wheras regular cat5 mirror each other exactly.
