well I guess it depends one what you will be using it for...

this one has the onboard graphics controller, so I'm thinking it shares your system memory for graphics acceleration. However, I like that it has the AMD processor and the 512 (even though it will be less 'cause the graphics) is pretty nice...

Basically, if a notebook fits what you need it to do then it's good.. This is an HP model though and I've heard occasional bad comments about structural quality, etc..

Well, there will be no gaming, just photoshop, web, email, word. So HP laptops lack quality?

very nice laptop, I´d buy it.

the graphics card is a non issue for you, the only thing I could think of improoving is the hd space.

edit..
and the screen resolution, I would much rather have a screen that supports 1440x1024, a biiiiig difference

no gaming, just that stuff? you could probably save about 1/2 of what you are paying if you will just be using that stuff...

Before I got my laptop from UPS I didn't quite think it would be enough power for me: Celeron 700MHz, 10GB, only 4MB video, started w/ 64MB ram but I upped it to 192

Right now I'm running WinXP Pro and I run Photoshop and all kindsa stuff all the time, it's clickin along pretty swiftly IMHO. (even though I have a 1.4GHz desktop, this lappy actually isn't that bad)

For something like what you said I'd think you could save a lot of money by going for something around 7-800 MHz instead :)

also, I can play Half-Life on my notebook, too, and that's cool :D

Hey,

I'm currently checking out the laptop market too. I think if you post this in General Hardware, you might get a better response. Also, know that XGA only goes to 1024 * 768. If you can live w/ that, good. I can't.

Nope. The savage videocard is the same one I have. It's crap. 2D is okay...but not stellar. You will enjoy a laptop that has a higher resolution. For $1300, you could get yourself a nice iBook:) 4.9lbs to boot!:)

It looks like a decent lappy...but even though AMD Athlon 4 is really nice, you may be able to get something with just as many features but with a P3-M processor because they're able to make P3-M systems really small and light (unless you need a big screen).

BTW, XGA is fine; on my 17"/16" viewable monitor, I'm doing 1024x768 becuase I see no need for more screen space (1152x864 gives more screen space, but there's no need).
