Is this a good HDD set up?

Here is what I have in mind. Three WD6400AAKS drives in Raid 0 on hardware RAID with a 9650SE running most of my programs, games and storage. A 30gig OCZ Vertex running the OS w/ select programs. A WD green 1.5tb drive using the W7 backup tool daily to protect my data.

Is there anything wrong with a setup like this. Before you ask, I don't really need the performance. I was fine with a single 640gig drive running and storing everything for a long time. Before that I had an 80gig HDD for about 3 years and never ran out of space. I just feel like doing it but not if there is something inherently stupid about it.

Personally I wouldn't mess with 3 WDs in RAID, and would stick to some 80GB SSD and green for storage..

80GB wont cut it for OS, Apps, Games AND STORAGE.

My current setup is 80GB SSD + 2 WD 1TB RADI0 + 500GB/750GB int/ext backup
Stick with 3x RAID0 and 1x Green Backup. If you decide to go ssd route, you can always move OS/apps/games to SSD, 3xRAID0 for storage and 1x Green for backup.

How about two Vertex 30gig in RAID 0 and two WD 640s for storage with a WD green for backup? A second Vertex 30gig cost about twice as much as a third WD640, which is only about $70.

I dunno, let me buy the 9650 card thats on the FS forum and I'll worry about my benchmarks that have nothing to do with real world performance later. This all started as a search for a SATA card that I could use to bypass the shitty SB700 and eek out a bit of performance from my Vertex. Then I said, "Why spend $60 on a Rocket 620 PCIe SATA III card when there is a guy selling a hardware RAID PCIe 4x card for $160. Thats a perfect use for that $100 you were going to use for food." And thus the dream was born.

why not just get one vertex 30Gig with trim support and 2xraid+ green?
keep OS/apps on vertex, games and others on raid.

I already have the Vertex but my performance is a bit lacking. Don't get me wrong, its FAST, but I am not getting the speeds I had hoped for. Seems my problems stem from the SB700. I had originally planned to just run my Vertex though a Rocket 620 card to give it as much bandwidth as possible and also to bypass the onboard southbridge.

The vertex when you use the 1.41 firmware has a "garbage collection" utility built into the firmware that you can use for systems that do not support TRIM like macs or RAID.
