Hello,

I can get my hands on a IBM Ultrastar 36LZX for a pretty good price. I want to know how good this drive compares to lets say a good 7200 rpm drive. It's gonna cost me about the same price for a 20gb 7200 8.5 ms drive...here's some specs:

10K rpm
Ultra 160
4.9ms Ave Seek Time
4mb Cache Buffer
18.3 GB

Well, lmk how this thing is =). i welcome any opinions and price isn't an issue here so that argument is out.

Thanks for any help that you provided =)

Its a very nice drive. Should be faster than ANY IDE drive on the market. Are you getting it for well under $200? If not spend the extra $$ for a segate cheetah.

Yes, i am actually getting it for well under 200, but...i think it'st he older version of the drive, not the newest version, the exact part number is: IBM-07N3210 i think, gonna have to check up on that, i know there is a 3240 and a 3210. well i think they are similar, but what impresses me the most is 4.9 ms =P.

Thx for you information, any other comments welcomed.

I just got this drive with a Tekram controller. Trying to build system now. I'm new to SCSI and it's confusing me :p
