I've found a gaming PC a guy is selling online. Is it ok if I post the specs and price here to see if you would buy?

Tell us about it and we'll give you some feedback. If that is 3what you're after then you should change the title to something more appropriate, such as is this a good deal so everyone will know that you're seeking advice.

I really wanted to build my own with a $1000 budget. It would be my first build!! Kind of scary, but sounds like a fun learning experience.

Well, pricing out the components, it looks to be about a $2k system or so, assuming you could even find some of those components any more. So $1200 would seem to be a good deal. Having said that, some of those components are overkill for a gaming system and with an overall budget of $1200, you could get new components and have just as good a gaming system.

Seriously, GFY. If you had half a brain, you would have gone to pcpartpicker and priced out the same components, before posting such a stupid post. building the same or similar computer would cost close to $2k, and some of the parts seem to be no longer available so substituting with similar brand parts are necessary. As I said, one could build a similar system much cheaper.

The slim BD writer I've found on Newegg for about $82, the Chenbro bay adapter is around $20, and six case fans will probably run you around $100 or so. The Antec PSU listed in the system isn't on pcpartpicker, but the closest Antec full modular 850W unit is listed above.

Building your first ever system IS kind of scary, but SO MUCH FUN as well.

You gather all our components, put them together, hit that power button for the first time - and the thing turns on before your eyes! It's priceless. You will never forget that moment.

My advice: Build your own system with your $1,000.- and keep asking the experienced members here on AnandTech for help. They will help you.

P.S. Don't listen to "Nhirlathothep" - he lives in a different world. :)

no, this is a 1000 bucks build (if used) you can lose your money as u like, but don t make other pple waste their. (i won t pay more than 800 for this btw)

man, sorry i must report to a moderator this! :(
and what you wrote is not the rigth way to know if the price is right :(
your comment is uneducated and wrong at the same time.

You have to build a better pc, not the same and than see if price is good.
If he spent too much money on wrong parts you have to avoid the error (and this is definitely the problem of this terrible build)

Can you build something better for $800?

i5 - $240
Cheap Z97 board - $85
RAM - $90
GTX 970 - $300
Nice 256GB SSD - $200
Antec Earthwatts 650 - $95
Nice AIO or Noctua cooler - $100
Windows license - $100

Subtotal: ~$1,200

I wouldn't spend $220 on a case, but arguably you have to include the cost of a nice case in the build, for comparison's sake. The parts selected were more expensive and arguably (marginally) better than some of what I priced on Newegg, and even then, there's a lot of value in that $1200 system.

There is a sticky at the top of this forum with a decent mid-range build for under $1000. You can use that as a base and adjust to suit your needs.

Here is another system based on a micro-ATX motherboard if you want something smaller.
