jesus christ i don't need a TV but am kinda wanting a PS3. and this package looks tits. is that 950 out the door (plus tax, of course)?

it's not _really_ 1100 bucks worth of savings, but 950 isn't even that bad a price for a good 1080p 46" by itself.

edit: and no interest for 3 years. ugh. fuck you, sony and best buy.

Thats what I'm trying to fiqure out.

First of all does anything use 1080P?

Second we have a 360 - but wouldn't mind a PS3 for their titles and such. But really don't need it.

What I really need is a new TV.

So Would I be better off getting just a lower res TV?

at 46", 1080p bluray will look a lot better than 720p. and while i don't know that particular model, sony bravias tend to be decent TV's. you will enjoy 1080p content on it, for sure.

if you consider it as 950 for a good TV plus a bluray player, and they throw in a free game console, it still seems like a pretty good deal to me. plus it's not exactly hard to pay off a thousand bucks in three years for most people, but financing is always bad motivation. ;O

That deal's been all over Slickdeals for the past few days. Definitely a good deal but apparently there's a few negative reviews of that TV. Still...if I had the funds available I'd be all over it.

Also, if you are in the market for any console, the deal with the 42" Panasonic Plasma and XBox 360 for $700 is also pretty hot.

Thanks for the info - you have a link for this?

Also I need to fit a 46" wide space in our entertainment center in bdrm so I'm not sure the top deal will even fit. We currently have a 32" PLASMA in there which is on the blink.

So bluray is 1080p? That model is sonys lowest end value line. Not that I care I go to sleep to movies don't really watch them.:p

It's a long thread, there's some guys saying it has a high return rate, that it's not so good because it's Sony's low-level 1080p LCD, etc. But, of course this is the internet, so, you know.

CNET gave it 3.5/5 http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/sony-kdl-46v5100/4505-6482_7-33485092.html

4.5/5 on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BRAVIA-KD.../dp/B001T9N0EO

yeah, bluray is 1080p. the playstation3 is 1080p as well, though some upscaling may be involved. generally looks better than a 360 at high res, for sure, bad ports aside.

for the price difference between 720p and 1080p (getting small), i would probably want 1080p on anything larger than 42", unless the viewing distance is going to be pretty huge.

sony's cheap TV's still look better than a house brand and generally at least as good as the value lines of their competitors (samsung, toshiba, et al). i would investigate any bad reviews, though, i wouldn't want to get something with a lot of reliability complaints. every company turns out a stinker every once in a while.

Disks are kinda pricey is reason I've generally held out and stuck in 2005ish tech with a upconverted plain old DVD player and 720p thanks agian.

Yea it's the high end people who already have high end tv's that are disappointed with it but I'm sure someone that's just getting into it would greatly enjoy it.

BB ran a special a few weeks back of 30% off all blu rays. May not see anything like it again for a while but it is something to keep in mind. Also, Amazon has great blu ray prices, and when new ads come out they tend to match prices on their site. Buying through Amazon, you get no tax and free shipping on totals of $25+.

You can rent Blu-ray movies from netflix and blockbuster. I think that way is a far better value, depending on how many times you like to watch a movie.

There are always blu-ray sales somewhere.
Amazon has a lot of Blu-ray sales or regular discounts where many Blu-rays are less than the cost of DVD MSRP.
Best Buy often has a lot of sales on Blu-ray, and Target will have cheap movies every week.
That's how I get movies, when I see sales, if one of the cheap movies is one I've been wanting, that's when I get it.

edit:
I'm referring to $10, $15, $20 Blu-ray titles, or prices close to those (but under $20).

Seems like it is just kinda like getting a free PS3 and some games... not $100 but not too bad of a deal. Of course if anyone here decides to buy one... let me know if you actually find one. Fine print says limited to warehouse quantities... meaning 2 or 3 per store.

And if you get one without having to buy bestbuy monster cables... that is bonus points for you.

there's a thread in OT right now someone posted about picking this stuff up. The consensus is that it is a fantastic deal (it really is)
