Is this a good deal on a server?

I'm looking for a cheap server for my home network. Nothing serious, I just want to stream MP3s/video, and maybe use it as a counterstrike server. I'm too lazy to build anything myself, and I want to keep the price as cheap as possible. I found a used system on-line at a dot-bomb auction site. Here are the specs:

Black 2U rack-mount server
L440GX mobo
Dual PIII-500 CPU
1GB of ECC RAM (PC-100)
9GB 10K SCSI HD
OnBoard: SCSI, VGA, NIC, USB
PCI: Intel dual-port NIC card

There's no OS installed, but that's not a big deal because I'll probably put FreeBSD or Linux on it. They want $450 shipped. I'm not too familiar with server hardware, so I don't know if ithat's a good deal or not. What do you guys think?

<< >Nothing serious

If youre using rack mount equipment, you are serious in my book.

Okay, nothing professional. Is that better? I'm not going to be using it for a business purpose or for web hosting or anything that requires redundancy or 100% uptime. It's just going to be sitting in my computer closet serving for my home network.

Im thinking closer to $320:

Black 2U rack-mount server - $ ? not familiar, but a box would be $20 - $50
L440GX mobo $50
Dual PIII-500 CPU $80
1GB of ECC RAM (PC-100) $80
9GB 10K SCSI HD $50
OnBoard: SCSI, VGA, NIC, USB $included above
PCI: Intel dual-port NIC card $10

Offer $375 or $400 even.

That seems a bit low to me. From PriceWatch, I get:

2U rackmount case: Around $50
Decent dual proc L440GX mobo $250
Two P3-500 CPUs $120
1GB PC100 ECC RAM $200
9GB SCSI HDD $60
Intel NIC: $20
Shipping for all that crap: $50 minimum

Total: $750

Anyone else have any thoughts?

$450 shipped is an excellent price for that system. And, show me where one can buy 2U rackmount cases with power supply for $50, and I'll load up on them.

FelixDeKat,

You aren't even close on the cost of the equipment. The dual Intel server NIC alone retails for $200 new. And, PLEASE show me where I can get a GB of ECC for $80.

Where are you getting this from in particulars? A lot of these clearing houses for deat dot coms require you buy in lots, rather than singlepiecing it.
