What I like about the mossberg is that it seems to have a huge amount of add on's for it. Maybe the Remington does also, was looking at the Remington 870.

I'm not a huge shotgun guy and I only have two friends that own them so maybe it is just my sample and most of them work fine. Still, a Winchester or Remington is only another 75-100. If you plan to use it as your primary self-defense weapon I'd be inclined to spend a bit more for known quality.
