Is this a good deal on a 2007 Honda Odyssey Touring Nav+DVD?

Cliffs below:

List price is $21,550

I went in yesterday test drove it and offered $21k for it and they came back with $21,250. The guy came out with the printout sheet and pointed to some random number (-42) and said that's the profit they are making on this. I immediately in my head called BS.

Anyway, we tried negotiating the interest rate, and he offered 6.5% for top tier credit. I countered 4.75% and we agreed that I'd get outside financing and he'll do an option deal. The guy left and had one of the underlings with a "floor manager" title do the rest.

Then my wife kind of got cold feet and wasn't sure about it. The carfax was fine, but it was a 2007 with 63k miles in 2 years and 10 months from new purchase (1 owner). The carfax did not show any maintenance activity, just the date of purchase (jan 2007) and when it was available for sale by the dealer.

And then we went out to see the car again and I pointed out scratches, etc and I lowered my offer to $20,500. They said they could not sell it at a loss blah blah, and the "floor mgr" showed me his "confidential" price sheet which showed the cost at $21,092. Remember, with my first offer they were losing $42 on $21,250? Anyway I brought this up and called bs and I told them "I know you got this at a wholesale auction for $18k. This is an obvious lease return and the guy drove the hell out of it. You put in prob $1.5k, with $20.5k you are still making $1k." And he said why do you think we bought it for $18k blah blah etc.

So we left. I couldn't believe they let us leave over $500. Then I started thinking maybe they were taking a loss on it and it really did cost $21,092?

Then they called this morning and said they would sell it for $20,500.

My questions:

1) Should I be wary of the car being driven 20k+ miles/year for the last 3 years? and the fact that there are no maintenance records on carfax?
2) Is the price sheet with the cost bullshit? What's the likely "cost"?
3) Good deal?

Cliffs:
1) List $21,550, offered $21, came back with $21,250. Claimed -$42 loss, implying $21,208 cost
2) Carfax shows 1 owner for 2 years 10 months 63k miles, no records of maintence
3) Examined car again noticed dingers, lowered offer to $20,500
4) Showed me price sheet list showing $21,092 cost
5) Remained firm on offer. They let us walk.
6) Called us this morning and accepted $20.5k

Edmunds, which I find fairly accurate shows a trade in of around $23,500.

At $20,500 I'd say the sale price is more than fair (without seeing the car) for the market. That van probably stickered for over $36,000 2.5 years ago.

For a Honda I'd say you are doing okay.

It sounds ok but I am not thrilled with paying $21,500 for a car with that many miles. Frankly I'm just not sure homey plays that.

It looks like a great van but the price just seems steep with 63k miles, I seriously doubt they are losing money.

Doesn't seem like a bad price considering it's a Honda and they retain their value so well.

Just to give you a comparison since you're mini-van shopping. We paid just under $16k for our '08 Grand Caravan with entertainment system (3 DVD screens), electric everything, and Stow 'n Go, etc. The only options it doesn't have is leather, heated seats, and nav. It had 50k miles on it (appears to have been a leased vehicle for a real estate agent). We got it from a dealership and we made sure it was Dodge Certified.

Did you check the tires? I'm pretty sure that the 2007 Touring also had the PAX run flat tires. Cheap they ain't.

Agreed, I see the OP posted this over on odyclub too, make sure you read the thread about the PAX settlement before you buy a PAX equipped car.

wow what a crappy settlement lol

[q]The total cash payout to the plaintiffs will be $83,000. The total that the companies will have to pay to the attorneys for the plaintiffs? $3 million[/q]

That's just not freaking right.

I am an owner of a 2007 Honda Odyssey Touring Package with Navigation and DVD. I'll start off by saying I love this car. It's perfect for me, my boys and the grandparents. Auto doors and tailgate rock when you are running in the rain from the grocery store with one kid in hand a bag of groceries in the other. Everything opens with the push of a button. There is no comparison to be made to a Dodge Caravan or any sadly any domestic minivan on the market. They can't retain their values like a Honda can. It saddens me to say that!

I do want to reinforce the information on the PAX tires. I exhaustively researched the class action suit when I noticed that my tires were nearly bald at 16000 miles. Neither the dealership, nor Michelin made getting my warranty replacement easy, but with patience, I was eventually sold (4) new PAX tires for $750 including tax and installation. That was at a 40% discount. Buying $750 worth of tires every 18 months is not in my budget.

If buying an Odyssey with the PAX system, I would definitely negotiate down the $2000+ to remove the PAX tire system from the car. My lease comes up in October this year and I'm gearing up to negotiate buying the car from the dealership at or below wholesale. If anyone has any tips for me on how I can best negotiate that deal, I'm all ears!

Did you get it?

That PAX thing seems fvcktastic bullsh*t.
Pax tires cost about $1200 for a set of four or $1600 for 4 snow tires including mounting fee and the Gel pack.
hahaha. I paid something like $500 for 4 winter tires for my 2004 MPV and that was including four steel wheels. $300 or $400 per tire on a minivan? Eat me. Maybe on an import sports sedan, but a minivan, get real.
Pax requires special equipment and training to mount and do wheel alignment which many shops do not have.
