Sounds like a pretty good deal. Where are you flying from?
The 3 nights in the MGM are probably worth $200+.

That's a pretty decent deal if you're not a rated player at the MGM. The "book rate" for their regular room is ~$250-300.00 / night. It'd be unusual for a "regular" tourist (versus a convention attendee) to pay that much, but you got an OK deal there.

The $10.00 chip is no big deal, most of the strip casinos are up to a $10.00 minumum bet on most of the tables.

Hint: if you're looking for inexpensive gifts to bring back, buy a bunch of $1.00 and 5$ chips at the different casinos you visit. It's about the cheapest logo you can get in Vegas (the used cards and dice are usually pretty cheap too - check the casino's gift shop).

Check out the Rio while you're there, that's my favorite place.

Good Luck

being the emerald tower, i stayed there for about $55/night. i don't stay there anymore, better deals and places elsewhere. So it's not a bad deal, not an awesome deal, but not bad. :)

Check Expedia. I'm planning a trip there in the middle of november and I got a rate of about $650 for 2 people. This is from Wisconsin. I'm looking for better deals, but this seems to be the best I can find so far. Where have you checked so far? This is for 4 days/3 nights at the Excalibur. No rental car or anything because I shouldn't need anything like that.

I checked Expedia, Travelocity, CheapTickets, AAA, all the sites.... i've gotten rate quotes as low as $360 pp ... but at some of the 'crappier' hotels... Circus Circus, Stratosphere.... i wanted to stay at a nice hotel... but dont want a $900 pp rate like the Bellagio.

Excalibur seems like a nice place. I'm not sure if it really is nice, but it looks nice :) It's also right on the strip, so it's in a nice position too.

Excaliber is OK, lots of kids though. It's kind of like a Holiday Inn, with jousting tournements nightly. Nothing special.

Check out the Rio. Large rooms (suites), good pools, something like 14 restaraunts, two buffets, the hottest dance club in the city, spacious casino ...and they have deals. Check out Harrahs.com for links to special deals. It's off the strip, which can be a good thing/bad thing ... there are shuttles to the strip (drop off at Harrahs or between Mirage & Treasure Isle).

If you like Italian food, try out Battista's "Hole in the Wall" on Flamingo, across from Bally's. It's an interesting place, not too expensive ... play "stump the accordian player."

Good Luck

I totally agree. Unless you have kids and are going to bring kids with you to Vegas, I wouldn't stay at the Excalibur.

Here's a great website http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/

I love staying at the Excalibur. Not because it's as nice as the others, but because of its great location. Since I don't spend much time in the room when I'm in Vegas anyways, being at the Excalibur puts me within walking distance of all kinds of fun. :)

I dunno, it's down at the South end of the strip ...(though the South end is getting "south-er" all the time :) ).

Bally's, Paris, Alladin, Flamingo - pretty much right at the intersection of Flamingo and LVB ....pretty much right in the middle.

From Excaliber, you got NYNY, the Tropicana, MGM, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay - still pretty good. The Luxor is interesting, used to be you could take a semi-sideways elevator ride ... I think you gotta be a guest now. Mandalay Bay is a good itime, nice club, decent casino, restaraunts are ok. NYNY is up-to-your-eyeballs-in-foreign-tourists (not that that's a bad thing) same with MGM.

I guess I'm just partial to the North end of the strip. I've stayed in damned near every hotel along the strip (no Bellagio / won't do it). For "on the strip" places, overall, I'd probably rate Mirage right up near the top. I'm not real fond of The Venetian (it feels like an overdone Itlaian whorehouse to me / my opinion). I've never had very good luck at the Flamingo, Treasure Isle is OK, CP is OK, same thing.....a little heavy on the theme .... it's really very subjective, my preference is the North end, and a couple places downtown (~Golden Nugget the steakhouse on the top floor is a most wunnerful place). I still like the Rio the best overall, though it's gone downhill a lot since Harrah's bought it (service is not as good, facilities are not as well cared for, etc - but still very good).

Go to Vegas, the first trip, just gamble around / do shows / whatever floats yer boat. EVERY PLACE you gamble, join the "Player's Club" (whatever that place happens to call it - this makes you a "Rated Player"). That puts you on the mailing list, and gets you some comps - "Special Deals" in the mail.

Don't book so much activity that you are running from place to place every hour. Spend some time in a couple of the most-likely-to-be-enjoyed places. Ask other visitors what they've seen and what they've liked.
