unless you absolutely need a dvd-rw i would wait. In the next two years they are going to go through the same growth spurt in speeds as cd-rw's did in the late 1990's.

go for the Neo Platinum, or if your an ASUS fanboy like me, go for the K8N-E Deluxe (of course, for its price premium, you could get the ASUS 939 board and a cpu to boot!)
note: that lite-on dvdrom drive screams like a banshee (as do all lite-on drives), you really don't need it when you have a DVDR, but if you must get one, find a diff model :)
also, if you have 80 to spare, standard 6800s are obtainable for 300 dollars (near double performance for a small price premium), even from one of nVidias partners, eVGA.com, it also comes with a free copy of farcry (since your ordering from newegg, that makes two free copies due to their A64 CPU/Mobo combo free farcry deal). i've never used corsair ram so i can't vouch for them, but i'd go with kingston or ocz, simply because i've used a ton of their modules and i haven't had a single one fail. and for added silence, get a Zalman CNPS-7000A-Cu, when you get it, do not use the fan speed regulator, the noise difference between fast and silent is neglible, so just plug the CPU cooler directly onto the mobo, thus letting it run full blast.

Looks good to me ! The suggestion (budget allowing) would be PC3500 Mushkin level1 ram(1 gig for $275 last I looked), and a NEC 2510A burner (dual layer $89 with software)

And its pretty quiet, but if you went OEM on the CPU and get a Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 (21dba) then it would be better !

i dont need completely silent...i will prolly change the lite-on drive out for another...and wait and buy a fast dl dvd burner in a year or so...

this is my first time building a computer so i didnt really want to put my own heatsink on it...will it relly make a diff if i dont oc to how loud and cool my cpu stock hsf is?

the mobo i have right now is fine then?i dont need the neo platinum..is that for oc'ers?

"also, if you have 80 to spare, standard 6800s are obtainable for 300 dollars (near double performance for a small price premium), even from one of nVidias partners, eVGA.com, it also comes with a free copy of farcry " i dont quite understand what you mean by this...im sure im just being an idiot and u explained it fine...but could u or sum1 else try again...again sorry for this...

thx for all the help...plz keep it coming

I would use the Antec Sonata case. It comes with one large case fan in the back, 380W low noise PS, rubber feet, and rubber mounts for the hard drives to reduce vibration. I just built a box around this case 3 weeks ago. I couldn't recommend it enough. The only down-side is getting the fron bezel off.

Wait a sec, double check that RAM, there should be a model right below it on Newegg, that has a 2.5 cas latency, instead of a 3.0, it's like 1 dollar more :) I have 2 sticks of the 2.5, 1 word, GREAT

1) yes
2) yes
3) depending what fits your budget. stay with the asus if ok.
4) yes & yes
5) get the 256 mb radeon 9800 pro and softmod it to a 9800XT. its really simple.

mastrduke: Nice system. I really can't comment on how loud the video card is, but other than that you just need a quiet heatsink and maybe an extra quiet fan and it'll be pretty much silent.

No they're not. It's not possible. You can't actually spin a DVD faster than 6X. The 8X DVD's you see now are actually "8X MAX." Eventually, DVD-R's will reach 16X speed, but it's not going to be that much faster than 8X.

Stick with the case you're using. The 2700-BQE is definitely my favorite Antec case. It looks so much better than the Sonata with its goofy 5.25" bays and "ANTEC" holes drilled into the side.
