So what exactly is so stupid about facebook?
The only reason I have an account there is because, for a large number of women I know, FB is their main, sometimes sole, means of communication on the net. Sometimes, you just need to know where the party is. ;)

But, omg, the treacly, bad Hallmark level of "inspirational" quotes and memes so eagerly shared would give me intellectual diabetes if I lingered. And if you stray just a little afield, you are bombarded with "endlessly forwarded e-mail crap sent by your idiot Uncle" and "youtube comments section" levels of insight and veracity.

Let me put it this way. Perusing FB makes me appreciate the refined discourse found in the delicately rarefied air of ATOT. :D

Is your post a phishing scam? Oh wait since I asked, it is.

Since you have more posts than I do I have to assume that you are correct. Or are you just padding your post count?

We have to wonder ...

I did not even realize emails for friend requests was a thing. I've always just done it through Facebook. When you do get a request, double check that the friend is REALLY that person, because there are lot of scammers that copy a friend's profile then send a friend request. I'm not too sure what their intent is once you friend them but I admit I've accidentally fallen for it then realized immediately and then unfriended. A good clue is to look at the person's post history (which you'll now have access to as a friend) and see that it was an account created recently. Or if you do a search for that person and they come up twice.

I only am friends with people I actually know. I see some folks with thousands of "friends." If I get a request I go to their site and see if it's really them. I've never gotten an email request. Never been asked for ID and I have multiple group sites I run. Never really worried about my security. My biggest qualm is that if you like or comment on a site or join another of your "different" friends might see it. I would rather my folks not see me joining the Psilocybin hunters group lol. There are ways around it now but for now they are clunky.

I'm not sure what benefit they'd get if I added them making it worth the fraudulent e-mail.

This time, the person exists on facebook - and their page is a picture of an ad for some adult website.

I assume that's the explanation.
