I am putting this beauty together this weekend. Please let me know if theres something that I could improve upon. RAID is not an option at the moment, I dont have the know-how. But apart from that, is there anything else that I have to take in to consideration while setting this up. Any comments/critiques/advice would be very well appreciated.

Thanks

is that a hint at fraud?

I picked the XP2000+ at googlegear.com. I was tending towards newegg at first, but googlegear had 50 cents shipping yesterday ( and today too I guess). I couldnt find a decent place where I could get a Retail XP2000+ for 180.50$. And its a two day shipping. If anyone is in the market for the same processor, might wanna check them out today. Might be an ongoing deal.

I haven't heard too many good things about googlegear.com

How's it not an option? You take 2 identical drives, plug 'em in to the raid controller, select RAID-0, and you're off.
A retarded monkey with 3 broken limbs and Irritable Bowel Syndrome could do it.

lol.

You might have to consider that you have 5 IDE devices and only 4 IDE connections. Unless you are planning to get an additional controller card.

I believe you would have got it up and running then 🙂.

The reason I opted against it was the drives are not exactly identical. One has a cache of 2MB and the other has 8. I dont wanna lose out on any performance advantage by striping them together.

Maybe I am wrong. I never had a chance to RAID a couple of HD. And no one has been able to convince me of the advantages of having it. I dont have any critical data, so Mirroring is not feasible. Striping is good, but because of the reason above.

So if you dont have much of an advice to give, go play with your zit on your pimpleface 🙂

hehe

hawhaw

LOL!

Raid is almost a bad choice unless you have a nice raid controller, especially for the faster drives. With raid setups on my machine, the harddrives are typically faster w/o the raid setup. IE don't get the Promise or Maxtor cards.

Just my $0.02.
