Is this a decent build for gaming?

Depends on what kind of gaming you want to do. The 8600GT is a relatively low-end card. What games are you looking to play, and at what resolution?

The AMD 3850 is the cheapest "high-end" card at the moment and would make a big difference over the 8600GT.

Depends on your budget. If you could fill in the sticky at the top of the forum we can make more detailed recommendations given your needs and budget.

You don't need much of a PSU for all of that, Antec 380 should be more than enough.

Yeah, you'd be much better off just using the stock HSF and using that 25 towards a better video card.

I would go intel. Get a Intel E2180 or E2160, overclock it by simply raising the fsb and spend the rest on a better video card. A antec 380w earthwatts psu will be just fine. Get a 9600gt, 8800gt, or ati 3870

BTW, what games do you plan on playing and what resoltion?

Even the 8800gs, HD3850 512mb or 9600gt would be a REAL significant stepup from the 8600gt, which is definately the weak link in your 'gaming' build.

there is no HSF just chip

The benefit of buying a retail boxed CPU is that the heatsink is included in the package.
