If its was me, I would`t take it. First of all it isint a bargain do the math, secondly that computer is outdated, save some money and buy a good system.

not bad for 500 bucks......no graphics card tho, its an IGP chipset so itll most probably be stealing ram for its self from the system ram. but its not bad at all....not sure if its a deal tho

if you want to be playing doom 3 i don't think it's going to be fun with those integrated graphics.

-_-;;

I'm not answering this cause to many links to click when the poster could just state the hardware but will go with the flo...BUY IT! unless you build your own which is always better, new, and helps the self esteem! ...

I hate it when people put a bunch of links and then you cant tell what is what. However, I did not see a video card so it looks like that is using Intel Extreme Graphics 2, which is not good for Doom III.

I tend to stay away from integrated Video. Sometimes you can live with integrated Sound if it is a newer motherboard.

I did not like the Video, or the motherboard, or the 40 Gig Hard Drive. It may be a great setup for Grandma (Sorry that is a joke).

Most people for games want a separate Video Card, and not the -VM version of that motherboard. It is the shorter version of the motherboard with fewer PCI Slots and can not be overclocked either. The deluxe version would have the gigabit ethernet as well. Nothing wrong with the Hard drive really but I recommend a larger hard drive simply because you may need the space later, and they cost about the same. ATA100 is fine for the hard drive. I am not a big fan of SATA just yet, however many people like the WD Raptor drive for its 10,000 RPM Speed.

You may consider using that case if it came with the WinXP CD. Also you may not want a DVD recordable drive. Some people are into copying DVD's, but I am not. It is just my personal preference. It is nice to have a drive with DVD so you can access DVDs with games on them. This is getting Common now.

I think this is a pretty good deal, but not for DOOM III. Might be you could use the components and just put in a new motherboard and or Video Card. I think since this is used equipment and the price might be nice at $250.00 to $300 since he has a nice DVD drive in it. A DVD R+/- is worth about $80.00. CDROM is $40.00, Hard Drive is $55.00, Floppy is $8.00, Case maybe $55-$65 if it has a nice power supply. The motherboard new runs about $95.00. The CPU runs about $100-$110. Add up all the components and then take off for being used 25% - 50% at least.

For Doom III I recommend an Athlon 64 system and ATI 9800 PRO video card at least. I think the video card is the most important component. You could get by with that XP2600+ processor and a standard Asus A7N8X motherboard, but you need a good video card. A lot of people are spending over $300 on a new video card.

Used computer equipment shouild be half price if it is what you want.

he said he would include this for another 25 dollars....
ATI RADEON 9600XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP -RETAIL... is that a good graphics card and does it make the deal any better...???

Is that mobo "A7N8X-VM/400" an overclocking board? If it is and you want to overclock, then that Barton becomes interesting because it can get up to 3200+ speeds with better cooling.
Still you will want new memory and probably a new HSF if you crank it up. Those will add up to at least $100.
So 465 - 100 = 365, round up to 400 becuase it has the 2510, and he's getting a real fair deal because these are all used parts. Obviously he has frequent upgrader's disease, so he is a motivated seller.

He sent you to the Corsair site for the RAM price, but if you look on newegg the regular price of PC 3200 - what you want - is 76 bucks. Free pen too :)

Edit: nm took me too long to post..

With that 9600XT, may be worthwhile barely, but if you are mostly a gamer, you willl want a new card ASAP.
$275 for a 6800 Vanilla
$200 for a 9800 Pro 256bit 128MB - might consider a 9800 XT for ~$250 if it has the HL2 coupon

I got a 9800 Pro and I will wait out the current generation of 6800/X800 to see what the next gen from ATI does early next year.

Thnx....thats an awsome help! i actually bought the computer with the 9600xt for 465. i heard it was agood deal from some other people... im reallly interested in making it faster by clocking it or whatever... he told me i could do that. Well im off to work now but will be on latter to see what i can do with my new pc! thnx every one!
