Is Thief 3 really that much of a system hog?

After hearing alot of good things about T3 i decided to give the game a go and went and bought it. However upon starting the game i was confronted with something ive not seen for a while, stuttery game play. I went to the AV section and saw the resolution was set to 1280, so i turned it down to 1024, but still the same. Tried 800 and still no luck. Exited the game and turned down FSAA from 4x to 2x and AF from 8x to 4x (performance mode) and stayed at 800, but still i get low FPS. So is T3 really that much of a system hog and my system cant cope with 2xFSAA, 4xAF @ 800x600 or is this a known issue with ATI cards? System below,

Cheers.

Never mind, it really is just a system hog. Played around with some of the games settings i missed first time round.

It's actually not that much more slow than Splinter Cell. My Ti4400 can handle it (the demo) OK at 1024 with medium to low settings. Will wait for a video upgrade to buy the real deal, though.

Your system rigs doesn't link. What is your system?

I have ZERO trouble playing Thief III at either 1024x768 OR 1152x864 with ALL details MAX, everything HIGH and EITHER "Bloom" or multisampling, and "medium/high" AA/AF (DOES ANYone know how to enable them BOTH simultaneously - at this point Bloom looks "better").

I am running with a P4@3.31Ghz, 1GB PC3500 and a Radeon 9800XT.,

OTOH, DeuSexII - even with the PATCH - IS a resurce HOG and i can ONLY play at 1024x768 with everything HIGH and MAX and medium/minimum AA/AF. ;)

Thief III game IS (very) stable . . . perhaps YOUR system isn't :p

(what about your audio? - unless you have an Audigy2, DISable EAX) ;)

I was having stability issues throughout the game until I turned off Fast write and VPU recovery in the ATI control panel.

eax IS off? ;)

anything o/c'd?

edit: isn't vpu recovery pretty meaningless - like when the screen blanks out and everything resets just short of a system crash . . . when that (rarely) happens, i reboot anyway. ;)

what does "fast writes" do anyway - and isn't this enabled in bios?

2nd edit: a quick search shows fast writes should probably be DISabled. . . . unless you are absolutely certain your system will benefit from the generally small performance gain. ;)
