Is it realistic to expect a sub 8-inch model of the GPU?
I cannot seem to find the dimensions of the reference model anywhere. Can anyone estimate the cards length? Is it regular sized, or slightly shorter?
Also, how long before we see a model that is around 7-inch in size?
Thanks!
Could it be that AMD is overcompensating for past launches of overheating cards? It seems like the reference cooler is overbuilt for a card that is only likely to draw 140 watts under typical gaming loads.
No. It's a REFERENCE cooler. It's not like AMD is going to sell this throughout the life of the generation. AIBs will take over. AMD should make a decent cooler that gives them GOOD reviews. Let the AIBs make the mini models and the large overbuilt coolers or whatever. AMD just needs to ensure good launch reviews with their reference cooler...

Not knowing the sound characteristics until testing is finished have us guessing here, however, have you ever seen a reference blower with fan cut-outs in the back? It should be a bit better than previous versions, especially with the low power use [not 150W].No. It's a REFERENCE cooler. GTX 480 had it cut right through the PCB![]()
Whatever the length of the reference model is, it doesn't matter.
Don't buy it.
Wait for a good AIB model that fits your needs. Always get a good cooler so never reference.
I personally would wait, but I don't like projecting my buying habits. For those with the need for this, it seems much better than previous. Of course, reviews are needed.I didn't say it might not be better. I said it should they should make a cooler that gives them decent reviews. I'm not saying this won't. I'm saying that AIB models are better so you might as well just get that.
Not waiting to see what cooler sapphire has to offer if you're an AMD card purchaser is bad. Very bad. Tremendously bad.
Edit: Not even knowing anything about the sapphire cooler, you're telling me you wouldn't right now pay $215 for a Sapphire cooler RX 480 over $200 for a reference cooler RX 480?

The card looks to be the exact same length as a GTX670.
It's o simple performance. Unless a blower card performs better why recommend anyone get it.I personally would wait, but I don't like projecting my buying habits. For those with the need for this, it seems much better than previous. Of course, reviews are needed.

Why not? Wait for benchmarks, if it's cool and quiet and don't intend on overclocking blower style coolers are great. They can breathe better in smaller cases and do better for crossfire.Whatever the length of the reference model is, it doesn't matter.
