Is there supposed to be this much resistance when locking the CPU lever?

There's significant pressure when i'm locking in the lever. Not enough to make it too difficult to lock it in, but definitely more than i was expecting.

How resistant is it supposed to feel?

the correct amount.

if you have the cpu aligned correctly, and the lids fall correctly, then it can only be correct.

It should bend easily. Check the alignment and the right direction you put the CPU in. The lever should fall 90% of the available space with no pressure at all... Posto some photos if you can

Not necessarily. I've built some pcs where the bracket is slightly bent inwards to add pressure to the chip. Felt like I was gonna snap the lever but it was fine.

I ended up mounting the motherboard to the motherboard tray and then installing the CPU. Appears to work fine, anyway.

Chalk it up to paranoia.

Once the CPU is installed, the metal lever should have a slight curve to it, meaning you would have had to apply enough force to bend it. It sometimes almost looks like the curvature of a CD.
