Is there such thing as an honest mechanic?

This past spring when I took my vehicle to a garage for a tuneup (plugs, filter, fluids, timing, etc) the bill was about 25% higher then I normally pay. I asked the serviceman why the bill for my tuneup was so high, and he informed me that my spark plugs didn't require replacement, and that they just needed to be cleaned. So basically, the bill was higher because they choose to take time cleaning my plugs instead of replacing them, as they normally do. I told the serviceman that no way in hell was I going to pay the extra labor cost for cleaning my plugs when he could of replaced them for less. He angerly removed the charge off my bill and I left shaking my head. The crap mechanics do to pad a bill amazes me.

there is. took my car to a mechanic because i thought something was wrong with my engine. kept on making this knocking noise.

charge was $25 to check it out.

turns out it was the lower engine shield and windshield wiper motor shield being loose.

took 4 cable ties and that was that.

im sure he could have said it was something bad and charged me for it and i'd be none the wiser. but he didnt.

If you know of any highschools with an automotive shop I suggest you take your car there. The teacher will love it because it gives his/her students something to work on. Knowing first hand, they're carefull. The teacher supervises the entire time if they're working on someone elses car so you're guaranteed nothing will go wrong. ^_^

i went to a mechanic to get my alignement done. So he does it, charges me, all good and happy

WRONG

he didn't see somehow that my lower ball joings were out of whack. On the drive home my alignment goes to high hell. Took my car somewhere else when i realized my car was still misaligned, and they were like "are you saying you -just- got an alignment? Oh Jesus.."

Haven't decided what to do with the first place yet =\

I took autoshop in high school- NEVER take your car to a highschool autoshop. The kids will screw it up because they're kids who don't care.
