Is there such a thing as an appetite stimulant?

Ive hit a string of bad luck and Im having a hard time dealing with it. An unfortunate sideeffect is that I have lost ALL desire to eat. In fact, even the thought of food makes my stomach churn. This is really upsetting me even more because I LOVE food and love to eat. Right now though, I already feel weak and fear for my health. Over the past two days Ive only had 2 cans of soup. I dont even want to know what I weigh, but I was already skinny at 5'9" 135. I apologize for anyone that is trying to lose weight, but I dont want to get physically sick. Im willing to resort to drugs or any other remedy to get my appetite back. Sorry NO POT. I dont like it, and i get drug tested. I appreciate any sincere replies.

well you know where I was going with this... but then i read your post.

Other than the thing you mentioned, I cant think of anything.

Starting an exercise program will speed up your metabolism, and you'll pretty much have to eat to stay alive and rejuivnate your body. youll feel better though

I'd imagine that would work!

What did you hit? May just be stress that's causing the eating problems.

I had a change in lifestyle several months ago and I don't know what happened but I can't eat like I used to. I was able to pack it down like it was nothing, now it's hard for me to finish a meal. I say, the past six months I've lost over 30 pounds just because I don't eat as much. Went from 215ish to 185 right now.

If you're stressed or depressed it can be tough.

You just have to mentally say "I HAVE to eat"

You may not like it, but you gotta do it. Soups and grilled cheese are easy on a nervous stomach.

True. I was going to mention depression before seeing it already posted.

yeah, and if it goes on for a week or two then please see your doctor. They've got stuff that can settle your stomach/nerves.

mmmm...valium...mmmm.

I went through some very tramatic stuff last year. Couldn't eat and the stress itself took me from 205 to 170 lbs in 3 months.

Its hard but I really had to force myself to eat. Still do to some extent.

I don't generally have a will to eat (have in the past gone for 2-3 days without eating just out of not feeling like it) but I try to eat regualarly anyway. I live in a dorm and get 7 meals per week in the cafateria if I don't use them I lose the money I spent on it so that keeps me motivated to eat recently.

This worked for a friend of mine who was going through a similar problem. Obligate yourself to eat. If you don't live in a dorm, buy food that will eventually go bad, and force yourself to make it otherwise tell yourself you're wasting money.
That may not work, but it's worth a shot. Otherwise, pot is the only other way I can think of.

thanks for the advice guys. i know the eating miracles possible with marijuana, but i get tested at my job :(. my job might also be in jeopardy if i have to seek mental help. of course if it comes to that i wont let my job get in the way, but im not to that point yet. i would definitely try just my regular dr. for the eating problems. i have a pretty active lifestyle, i walk about 30 min a day, and play in a soccer league. and its not that im just not hungry, but sometimes seeing a plate of food makes me feel sick to my stomach, its only been like this for a few days and its definitely due to stress/depression (new city, no friends/family, some other life changes as well). this evening though i went out to meet some friends to do some schoolwork and i ate a decent amount. so hopefully that will be the turning point. its hard for me to gain weight as it is, and i am a little self conscious about how skinny i am to begin with. also, i am giving up alcohol for a while so there is like 40,000 less cals a week right there :)

I had the same issue when I started college. Lost my appetite (partly for medical reasons) and I found that keeping food and snack food around helped. Took a little while to build my appetite back up, because once my body adjusted to having little food, eating normal meals made me feel like I was overeating. Keep food around and snack a little during the day. Almonds were good for me. Goldfish crackers too, but only because I like them and they never made me feel sick.

As others have said, you have to deal with the root of the problem which is your stress/depression. A doctor may prescribe something for you, but any good doctor will tell you they only want to do it as a last resort if you are healthy otherwise. Otherwise you open yourself up to a multitude of other problems that will probably last longer than whatever you are dealing with.

You're going to have to find some way to cope with your problems. Time is usually the best remedy. Until then, just eat what you can. Don't try to force down a full meal, just have smaller, more numerous meals throughout the day.

Good luck, and keep us updated.

its gotten worse.

instead of not having an appetite. i just feel sick to my stomach all the time. its a vicious cycle bc i know it is upset bc i havent been feeding it, but i cant feed it when it is sick. its like a rollercoaster with 2 minute loops. i feel OK for one second, then it washes over me again and i have to will myself to not heave. this sucks. yesterday it only lasted for like an hour. but today it has been going on for 4
