Is there such a thing as a reliable sports car?

Or do those words simply not go together? If you had to pick a reasonably priced sports car (new OR used) that had to be your daily driver for work and what not, which car would you pick and why?

Discuss. :D

Doh - Pontiac Firebird. I figured most people here wouldn't be interested since it's an American sports car.

Imao GENERALLY

German cars seem ok
English cars are much better than before, but have a bit more to go
Italian cars? Gotta be kidding.
Japanese sport cars? Oxymoron ;) (I mean sports, not "sporty" cars) A 255 HP Maxima or whatever is a Maxima with a 255 HP engine.

Hmmm... If I think of more, I'll letcha know.

Oh yeah, 2 cars for the US... The Viper and Corvette. Hmmm Dunno about the Viper, but 'Vettes are all over the place. Seems that one car goes forever and another BOING!

No, sorry. No such thing as a 4-banger FWD sports car :)

I was thinking more like something with more than 200hp, but OK, the GSR is a "sporty coupe".

As for the reliability thing, I have heard horror stories about RX-7 TT's, Stealth AWD TT's and the like... I was just wondering if it's exaggerated, or if its true?

No, no one is interested because it's not a sports car...

2000 Corvette HT 6-speed, driven to work daily, Mobil 1 every 5,000 miles, never a single problem and 21.3 mpg lifetime. Mods include Donaldson Black Wing intake/filter, CAGS eliminator and Hurst shifter. This is my 4th and nary a problem. Addicted to torque.

i think a lot of it has to do with how well the car is taken care of and how it is driven. Sports cars are generally driven harder, well- like sports cars. And that wears down the engine a lot faster. If you drive your honda civic at full throttle and do neutral drops all the time then you'll probable end up with some pretty crucial horror stories too.

I would definitely consider that a sports car. Although I would consider a cardboard box with a 300+hp V8 a sports car too. :p

Are we defining a sports car simply by how many ponies are under the hood? In that case, any poor-handling American POS with a V8 will do.

Not necessarily, I didn't mean to make that distinction. I would consider a Miata or an Opel Speedster as sportscars even though their displacement and hp ratings are low.

Then what is your qualification of a sports car?

I think it either takes balance, or it takes a lot of money e.g. I doubt an NSX breaks down much

What do u define as sports car? Alot of coupes are seen as sports cars and they are reliable as sedans, ie Intregras, Preludes, Mustangs, Mits. Eclipse, Toyota Celica, and Bimmer 3-series.

Semantics again. Gotta know. Sports car? For me, 150mph plus and .9g on a skid pad. More to it than that though. (In case someone posts a nuclear powered hummer on rails or something)

A sports car is a 2-door w/either AWD or RWD with a stick shift and has a balanced loadout of performance and handling. The Miata makes up for its lack of umph with sweet handling.
