right now I am shopping for furnitures and found out a Good mattress cost a lot of money. Ever since I was a student I lived in the dormitories and they provide a decent mattress. I guess I got spoiled and now I have to pay for my own. I doubt I can find a cheap one online after shipping cost kicks in, and I am somewhat hesitant buying a used one (go figure and keep your mind in the gutter). So where could I start?

all I need for now is a good mattress and a table (which I will grab a cheap one from Walmart)
later on I may want a futon, bed frame (my guardian insisted), and 2 chairs.

EDIT:

holy shitz! ! Look at these prices!!!

just buy a good one man. you only need to buy a bed like 3-4x's in your life maybe. buy a good one.

OR

Goto your goodwill and get one if your broke or don't like aero pump up beds :)

Oh, were those college dorm mattresses BRAND NEW or used?

Or Air Mattress, if you dont have a cat.

I won't mind sleeping on the floor; heck, give me a $20 sleeping bag and off I go, but my guardian INSIST I get a bed frame. For the harmony sake I will oblige.

and if I am going with the bed frame route, I might as well just get a good decent mattress along with it.

re: jmoe782

those college dorm mattress weren't exactly brand new; I just lied to myself for the pass 5 years that they aren't semen-soaked.

Check to see if you have a Resnicks type store out there. Around here he is supposed to be king of the cheap matresses. He sells a full firm set for $260. You might also be able to get closeout deals at matress stores. I got a Simmons pillow top for almost half it's original price that way.

Drop $1,000 off your car budget in that other thread and get a good matress. A good nights sleep is worth the extra $$.

Also check the furniture stores too. A lot of them will have a seconds department that will have cheap matresses. Either it will be on clearance or irregular (perfectly usable but something like odd sewing, visual flaws, etc). If you spend some time looking around you can easily find a good deal on something that won't make you miserable to sleep on.

Edit: He doesn't even have to drop $1000 off his car budget. I got a $1000 simmons pillowtop set for a little over $500 because it was last years model. I doubt he needs a top of the line queen bed. He can probably get a good full size bed for $250 - $300 if he looks around.

heh I am not getting a car anything soon, beside my current one is running fine. I was just bored at the time of posting that thread, I was just curious to see what my next car could (not should be. )

anyway, $1000 for a mattress is STILL too much man. I mean, I used to sleep on 'free' mattresses and now I have to shell out FOUR MONTH of rent for a mattress; beside, I will be moving in a couple of years so i don't get the most out of it.

oops.... forgot to mention, I just moved to Missouri..... to Marshfield (population 6000).... to a 400sqft studio. (not 600sqft as previously stated)

so $250 is actually fair game here.

If you like water beds they go for next to nothing used. My queen sized one was $100 complete but I am not one of those people that freaks at the idea of sleeping in somebody else's bed.
