so what's new....

I am looking for a board that will have/handle:

Intel chipset P45(?)
one video card
at least one IDE connection
8 or more SATA connections
3 PCI slots
Dual Gigabite Lan
on board sound
USB galore
Headers for additional USB
firewire
8 gigs of ram support (DDR2+DDR3?)
Lots of aux fan connects (monitored)
Quad Core support

The closest I came is the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, but it has 2 PCIe and only 2 PCI slots, no DDR3 support (should I even worry about that right now?). What other boards come close to my wants/needs?

Want to use it for Photo/Video editing, mild gaming, media server, multi tasking (big time).

Gigabyte UD3R

Same board as the Gigabyte UD3P...but only has one PCI-e slot.

Have at it. This is a very nice board and you will just love it. I have the UD3P version.

EDIT: I wouldnt worry about DDR3 right now. It is just too expensive for the performance increase it provides.

thanks for all the suggestions. I did look into the UD3R with the 3 PCI slots and one PCIe, but I think the UD3P has the upgraded sound, and the 2nd Gb Lan.

Any candidate from Asus? I have heard they have gone a little down hill with the QC. I used to like them alot.

Any projection on the relase date of the Nehalem? worth waiting? $$$?

I wouldnt worry about Nehalem right now. The prices of DDR3 memory and a X58 board, the prices will be through the roof. And unless you run intensive applications and whatnot, You would be hard pressed to even notice a difference from Core 2 to Nehalem in most games. Nehalem will also *hopefully* push down the prices of current Core 2 offerings.

To the reviews I read, the Gigabyte UD3P is a high end board with a mainstream price tag.

Just pick up the UD3P and have fun. Trust me...You will be glad you did.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I assure you your post did not go unnoticed. I did look at the Asus P5Q, Gigabyte UD3 as well as the DFI boards and it's variants. I bought the UD3P because it was on sale for $99 after all discounts form NE. For the price, I thought it is a comprable board +/- a few features.

Now I have to decide on a quad core prossessor.....
and video card.... and PSU

Oh joy
