Is there such a cable that does component to DV?

Hello, I was wondering if I buy the hundred dollar dvd recorder at BB this week, is there a Component-->DV cable? I would assume that would give me the best quality (is it possible to record HD?). Does such a cable exist?

DV or DVI? Are you trying to hook the DVD recorder up to your monitor or something?

Current set top DVD recorders do not record in HD. Only consumer based device are D-VHS decks. Not until BluRay or HD-DVD become commercially available before we can record to disk HDTV.

If you're trying for a Component -> Digital cable, no dice. For one, it's impossible for a cable to digitize analog and even if it were possible, you are still bottlenecked by the component video. Assuming your DVD recorder takes component in, your best bet would be straight component and pray that your recorder has a great ADC.

Hey, I meant firewire (the port you use to hookup DV cameras). Is there a cable that does DVI-->Firewire? The dvd recorder I am looking at has firewire input and RCA (no component), so I thought if I went over firewire it would give me the best picture. However, I do not have firewire out on my HD receiver. Would this work? Also does firewire carry sound as well as video? Thanks

There are no cables of that sort.

DVI is used for video signal ONLY, no audio. Firewire is designed for data transfer. While firewire can do video, like from a DV camera to PC, this relies heavily on the computer as it must take all this data and convert it to video. If there were a cable that did this, it would have to have all sorts of electronics within it.

Firewire can carry sound and video at the same time.
